There is something incredibly special about creating artwork for a place where little people begin their journey through the world. 🤎
These door panels were painted for my son’s day care centre, and that made this commission even more meaningful.
Each doorway represents a different stage of childhood and growth. From being held safely as a baby, to discovering the world through curiosity, learning, play, connection and movement, every child walks their own path. No two journeys are ever the same, and every single one deserves to be celebrated.
As an Aboriginal woman, culture has always taught me that our children are precious. They are connected to family, to community, to Country and to the generations that came before them. When children grow up seeing culture reflected in the spaces around them, they are reminded that they belong, that they are valued, and that their story matters.
My hope is that every child, parent and educator who walks through these doors feels a sense of warmth, welcome and connection. That these artworks become quiet reminders that growth isn’t a race, healing begins with belonging, and every milestone, big or small, is worth celebrating.
Knowing my own son will walk past these paintings every day fills my heart in a way that’s hard to put into words. It is such an honour to leave a little piece of my culture, my story and my heart in a place that has cared for him.
Thank you for trusting me with something so meaningful. 🤎
