We adore reading and storytelling with children but we also love a little song, nursery rhyme and finger rhyme.
This one is part of our Little pea story.
“ Nursery rhymes, which integrate music and language features, require fewer resources than parent-child reading and less specialized parental instruction, showing a promising effect on language development of preschool aged children. “

A butterfly 🦋
Landed on a leaf 🍃
Then laid an egg 🥚 and flew away.
Inside the egg,
Inside the egg.
A caterpillar was born long and hungry 🐛
He wiggled here.
He wiggled there.
And then he ate,
Crunch crunch.
And then he ate,
Crunch crunch.
He ate and ate and then he fell asleep 💤 shhhh.
And then he slept shhhhh.
And then he slept shhhhh.
He slept, transformed,
And then he flew away 🦋
Song and finger rhymes are a gentle way to embody learning with our hearts and hands. This long embraces the life cycle of butterflies 🦋 putting the A into STEAM education.
We are slowly learning this song with our Thursday home school garden club group.

Today we had the joy of joining the Central Coast Wetlands and CEN in a tree planting morning. Made possible with a grant from Landcare Australia and Bupa Australia
Our garden club kids planted over 400 trees, shrubs and ground cover.
What a way to celebrate National Science week by being a team of Environmental Scientists.
Central Coast Wetlands have planted over 150 000 trees since they first started many moons ago. They have increased not only the plant diversity but also the animal diversity. More than 250 types of birds call the Wetlands home during the year. Including the Swift parrot that travels from Tasmania to Papua New Guinea.
A day to remember.

Wattle with its tiny suns ☀️
Underneath the spotted gums 🌳
Warms our hearts till springtime comes ❤️
With its sunny hours 🌸💛
Acacia floribunda blossoms at this time of year in our region, which is also represented on the Dharawal seasonal calendar (Sydney and south of there).
I adore Wattle 💛💛💛

I read a pretty sad statistic that up to 50% of parents believe their child to be a fussy eater. I forget sometimes how much families and parents struggle.
I am pretty gentle with my approach to supporting families and parents as often it can be developmental. I wrote a wee blog about it here.
If you are struggling a bit more than this, then it is important to reach out for more specific support. There are some fabulous folks on the coast that can help you.
Check out this wee blog. I also popped it in our latest newsletter.

Where little people learn to love food...through story, cooking, gardening, song and STEAM.

We run in person programs at The Golden Grove Garden .golden.grove and we create resources for children, families, educators and health professionals on our website.
We look forward to exploring food and nature, together.
