Bowel cancer claims around 101 lives in Australia every week.

It doesn't have to be that way. Bowel cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers when caught early. Talking to your GP about your risk, acting on screening kits, and following up on referrals all make a difference.

If your GP has recommended a colonoscopy and you have been putting it off, please give us a call. We are here, and we are local.

Bowel cancer prevention starts on your plate.
Around one third of bowel cancer cases are linked to things we can change — and what we eat is one of the biggest. Bowel Cancer Australia has the research and resources to back this up, and the best part is: small changes add up.

A few practical things you can do this week:
Add wholegrains. Eating at least 90g of wholegrains a day (think brown rice, wholemeal bread, oats) can reduce bowel cancer risk by around 17%.
Make room for dairy. 400g of dairy per day — milk, yoghurt or cheese — is linked with around a 15% reduction in risk. If you avoid dairy, talk to your GP about calcium alternatives.
Cut back on processed meats. Bacon, ham, salami, devon — keep them occasional rather than everyday.
Fill two-thirds of your plate with plants. Vegetables, fruit, beans, nuts and wholegrains. Leave the last third for lean protein.
Move your body daily. 30 minutes of activity that gets your heart rate up.

You don't have to overhaul your diet overnight. Pick one change and build from there.

99% of bowel cancer cases can be successfully treated when detected at the earliest stage.

That number changes significantly the longer a diagnosis is delayed. Early detection through screening is one of the most important things you can do for your long-term health.

If you are aged 45 to 74, you are eligible for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. Free test kits are sent in the mail. If you have one sitting at home, please use it. If your GP recommends a colonoscopy following your result, our team is here.

What are wrinkles and lines?

As time passes, our skin naturally changes. One of the most common signs of these changes is the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. They are part of the normal ageing process, influenced by factors such as genetics, lifestyle, and environmental exposure.

While wrinkles and lines are a natural reflection of life's journey, many people look for ways to support their skin as it matures. A consistent skincare routine, sun protection, healthy nutrition, and professional treatments can all play a role in helping the skin look and feel its best.

Treatment areas
Frown lines — When we concentrate, worry, or show displeasure, the muscles between our eyebrows naturally contract. With repeated movement over time, these expressions can contribute to the appearance of lines in this area.
Forehead lines — Lifting the eyebrows causes horizontal creases to appear across the forehead. With age and repeated expressions, these lines may become more noticeable, even at rest.

Crow's feet — Often associated with smiling, laughing, or squinting, these lines appear at the outer corners of the eyes. Over time, they can develop into fine lines that remain visible beyond the expression itself.

What is volume and definition?
Our skin's appearance is influenced by many factors, including its structure, hydration, and natural elasticity. When we talk about skin volume, we're describing the look of fullness and support beneath the skin's surface, which contributes to a healthy and balanced facial profile.

Definition refers to the way natural contours are highlighted — such as the outline of the jawline, cheekbones, or other areas that give the face its unique shape. Good definition allows light to reflect in a way that enhances facial harmony and balance.

Areas commonly discussed include cheeks, lips, chin, jawline, nasolabial folds, tear troughs, marionette lines, and temples.

Flu season is here. Are your vaccinations up to date?

It's the time of year we start thinking about flu shots — but flu is only part of the picture. Many adults are due for other vaccinations and don't realise it.

A few things worth knowing:

Vaccines aren't just for kids. Protection from some vaccines decreases over time, which is why boosters are recommended for adults too.

Some vaccines protect more than just you. Staying up to date helps protect the vulnerable people around you — babies, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system.

You might not be fully up to date. Many adults miss vaccinations included in the Australian schedule or recommended based on age, lifestyle, or travel — including whooping cough, pneumococcal, shingles, and seasonal flu.

Staying protected is a lifelong process, not a one-time event. Booking in for your flu shot is also a good opportunity to discuss your other vaccination options — shingles, pneumococcal, whooping cough and more — and check what's recommended for you.

If you're not sure what you're due for, our team can help. Call us on 02 4455 5422.
