Salt has been given a bad rap.
But our bodies actually need salt.
Sodium is an essential electrolyte. We need it for hydration and fluid balance, as well as normal nerve and muscle function.
The problem isn’t adding good-quality salt to your food. Much of the salt in our modern diet comes from processed and packaged foods, where highly processed salt is added in large amounts.
And then there’s the salt you choose at home.
We avoid highly processed table salt such as Saxa, which is heavily refined and contains anti-caking agents. Instead, we choose good-quality salts that naturally contain trace minerals.
We also add a pinch of salt to our water.
If you’re drinking purified or reverse-osmosis water, the purification process removes minerals from the water. Adding a small pinch of good-quality salt adds sodium and some trace minerals back in and helps support hydration — particularly when you’re losing more through sweat, exercise, sauna or hot weather.
So which salt do we have at Empower?
Celtic Sea Salt — fine + coarse
Naturally contains trace minerals. Fine is our pick for adding to water because it dissolves easily, while both are great everyday salts.
Himalayan Rock Salt — fine + coarse
A mineral-rich rock salt and another great option for everyday cooking and seasoning.
Phyco Salt
Sea salt with organic kelp and seaweed. Our pick if you want the added benefit of naturally occurring iodine from seaweed.
Murray River Salt Flakes
Beautiful Australian salt flakes with a light, crunchy texture. This is the one for finishing your meals.
So don’t be afraid to salt your food. Just choose your salt well.
You’ll find all of these at Empower Wholefoods.
