Here’s some Top Tips from Dr Shuei Belcher our amazing Chiro at Castle Hill Osteopathic Clinic, relating to sleep and Muscle Pain.
🌙 The Hidden Reason Your Back Pain Won’t Go Away
If your back pain, neck pain, or shoulder pain seems to be lingering longer than expected, your sleep could be playing a bigger role than you realise.
Research shows that poor sleep can increase pain sensitivity, slow tissue recovery, and make muscles feel tighter and more fatigued. In fact, people who regularly get inadequate sleep are more likely to experience persistent musculoskeletal pain.
As we move through the cooler months, reduced daylight, disrupted routines, and less physical activity can all affect sleep quality.
Shuei’s top tips:
✅ Reduce blue light exposure 1 hour before bed (phones, tablets, TVs)
✅ Consider magnesium supplementation which can relax your muscles and nervous system
✅ Spend 5 minutes stretching tight areas before bed
✅ Practice slow breathing (e.g. 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out) to help calm the nervous system
✅ Aim for a consistent sleep and wake time—even on weekends
Better sleep won’t solve every injury, but it can be a powerful part of your recovery.
