Leigh Skead Art

Leigh Skead Art Leigh Skead is a Queensland based artist. Her art invites contemplation and emotional connection.

Her paintings explore landscapes, nature, and portraiture, with a particular fascination for the contrast of light and shadow cast by the late afternoon sun. Leigh Skead is an Australian artist working across watercolour, acrylic, and oils, with a practice grounded in observation, emotion, and a deep connection to place. Her work spans landscapes, nature studies, and portraiture, unified by a fasc

ination with light — particularly the shifting contrasts created by the late afternoon sun. It is in these moments of transition, where light softens and shadows deepen, that Leigh finds her greatest inspiration. Through layered colour and intuitive mark-making, Leigh balances realism with gentle abstraction,
allowing each work to hold both clarity and atmosphere. Her watercolours embrace translucence and unpredictability, creating depth and emotional resonance through the interplay of pigment and water. In recent years, her portrait work has evolved to focus on storytelling, honouring individuals whose lives and contributions shape their communities. Leigh’s paintings invite quiet contemplation, offering collectors works that are both visually enduring and rich with meaning, grounded in light, memory, and human connection.

When asked why he didn’t cut funding to the arts in order to support the war effort in World War II, Churchill reportedly responded:

“Then what would we be fighting for?”

Have you heard of the Incognito Art Show?
The Incognito Art Show is a not-for-profit organisation supporting Australian artists. We run Australia’s biggest and most inclusive art show.

The Incognito Art Show isn’t an ordinary art sale. Every A5 artwork, regardless of artist, is sold for just $100.

The twist?

The identity of an artwork’s artist remains anonymous. Only once an artwork is bought will the artist’s name be revealed to the buyer on the back of the artwork.

Profits raised from every purchase go towards funding programs that support artists living with disability.

Art!!
Not everything I make is a landscape or a portrait — sometimes I just play.

These watercolours have neurographica lines drawn through them, and honestly the process is as enjoyable as the result.
A flower, a bromelaid, eucalyptus leaves, a snake plant — each one a little meditation. Available if any catch your eye. 💛

Five watercolours, five moments - a yellow dress at the shore, a red reflection, a rain-soaked city, a golden creek , and a very contented chook shed. Each a love letter to the world as it quietly goes about its beautiful business

The Yellow Dress
Medium: Watercolour Size: 56 × 38 cm

Two young women stand at the edge of the Whitsunday shore, the waves rolling in softly, the world reduced to sand and water and the joy of being exactly here. The yellow dress catches the light like sunshine itself.
A seagull keeps a respectful distance. This is a painting about friendship, about summer, about the particular freedom of standing barefoot at the edge of something vast and beautiful and feeling completely at home.

Reflected in Red

Medium: Watercolour Size: 56 × 38 cm

She stands at the water's edge, red dress pooling around her feet, her reflection more vivid than she is. The water turns the world upside down and somehow makes it more beautiful. About the hidden colour in ordinary moments, the poetry in a single figure on a quiet afternoon.

City Puddle

Medium: Watercolour Size: 56 × 38 cm

After the rain, the city reinvents itself in every puddle. A tram, a clock tower, the rush of traffic — all of it flipped and softened and made briefly magical by a shallow pool on the footpath. About finding the extraordinary version of the world that lives just beneath the ordinary one.

Lagoon Creek

Medium: Watercolour Size: 56 × 38 cm

The trees reach upward into golden light and downward into their own perfect reflection, water and sky dissolved into one. One of those quietly extraordinary places locals know and love — where the afternoon light turns the water to gold and the world doubles itself in stillness.

The Chook Shed

Medium: Watercolour Size: 56 × 38 cm

Every Queensland property worth its salt has a chook shed. This one glows with afternoon light, five hens going about their important business with complete indifference to being painted. Deep joy in the ordinary rhythms of rural life.

All five are available as originals, and i'd love for them to find a home where they're loved. DM me or find me at the
