Activate Mental Health

Activate Mental Health 😀😃😄😁😆😂🤣 Our mission:

Improving well-being through a positive, vibrant and well connected social community.

Activate Mental Health is a dynamic mental health initiative that promotes the importance of community & social connection for positive mental health & wellbeing. Established in 2016 as the Perth Active Depression Support Group, the group has grown and continues to assist its members in improving their mental health through dynamic social activities. Our values:

Acceptance: we welcome people from

all walks of life. Community: we provide a welcoming and inclusive platform for our members to feel connected and valued. Fun: we run engaging and enjoyable events. This group generally operates in the central areas of Perth and runs the occasional online meetup.

Loneliness doesn’t fade by waiting. It begins to shift when we take small, intentional steps toward connection.

As part of Loneliness Awareness Week, Shabnaz, one of our blog writers, has written a powerful blog piece reminding us that loneliness isn’t about being alone… It’s about feeling disconnected. And the way through it isn’t avoidance, it’s action.

To help, she’s outlined a Personal Connection Toolkit with simple tools anyone can use.

And the most important tool of all: self‑compassion. Feeling lonely doesn’t mean you’re failing, it means you’re human.

Last night, a small group of Activate Mental Health members experienced Lightscape at a subsidised rate, thanks to funding from the Rotary Club of Northbridge WA.

The club has given us sponsorship to make events hosted in Perth and Northbridge more accessible for our members.

We received this wonderful testimonial below:

“It was great attending this event! The organisers were very warm and welcoming. They made it comfortable for all attendees to interact with each other. I enjoyed meeting everyone at this event, and we all had great fun experiencing all the lights and music at the Perth Lightscape. Looking forward to attending the next social event hosted by Activate Mental Health!”

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Northbridge for allowing us to provide more safe, fun and welcoming settings to help our members improve their mental well-being.

If you’d like to sponsor our cause to help scale our impact, please email [email protected].

Activate Mental Health has always had a close link to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

In this blog post, learn about Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and how the five levels relate to mental health support.

Activate Mental Health is a dynamic organisation that meets these needs for your mental health and wellbeing.

If you want to join as a member, volunteer, sponsor or donor feel free to reach out or click on the links at the end of the article!

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is a psychological framework that helps us understand human motivation, well-being, and the conditions that support growth. It suggests that our most basic needs must be met before we can fully focus on higher goals like confidence, meaning, and self-actualisation.

Perth deserves more safe spaces for mental‑health connection, and you can help make that happen.

Activate Mental Health has always been powered by people, by courage, connection, and the belief that no one should face mental distress alone. As we all know,

As a grassroots registered charity, every donation (big or small) helps us run free peer‑support groups, walking meetups, board‑game nights, and safe spaces where people can show up exactly as they are.

Donate today, and help us end loneliness together!

Our Sponsors Have Renewed Their Support!

We’re excited to share that all of our current sponsors have renewed their sponsorship for the next financial year, which is a huge vote of confidence in the impact our community is making together.

A heartfelt thank you to Consumers of Mental Health WA , Rotary Club of Northbridge WA , Blooming Minds, ABS Institute, and Mark Your Ceremony - Celebrant + MC for continuing to champion our mission of reducing social isolation and strengthening mental well-being across Perth. Their ongoing support helps us deliver hundreds of peer‑led social events each year and create meaningful opportunities for connection.

You can read the full story and hear directly from our sponsors about why they choose to back our work:

On 1 May, Rahul, our founder, had the honour of speaking at Perth Rotary - Western Australia about Activate Mental Health’s decade‑long journey, from a small peer‑led meetup in 2016 to becoming Perth’s largest volunteer‑powered mental well‑being community.

We’re deeply grateful for the Club’s new initiative to donate $1,000 to our cause on behalf of the clubs guest speakers over the next three months. This commitment strengthens our ability to run inclusive events, as at the end of the day, .

This support is on top of the existing ongoing support provided by Rotary Club of Northbridge WA and one-off support from the Rotary Club of Subiaco

Thank you to Perth Rotary for your leadership, generosity, and belief in community connection as a force for change. Also, congratulations on celebrating your centenary!

Activate Mental Health’s decade‑long journey was celebrated at the Rotary Club of Perth, whose generous new donation initiative highlights the strong partnerships helping our community grow.

Donate today: its the end of the financial year

If you’ve been planning to support Activate Mental Health this year, your tax‑deductible donation made before midnight tonight will help us continue creating safe, social, stigma‑free spaces for people across Perth.

One of our community members recently shared:

“I’ve been introduced to a variety of new people, interests and views. AMH has expanded my circle, and I have never felt any pressure, obligation or concern.”

This is what your support makes possible.

In the past decade, we’ve welcomed:
8,453 members
3,228 events
18,500+ RSVPs
150+ volunteers

And we’ve done it all on an incredibly lean budget, just $20.87 per event.

Your support today helps us:

😃 Expand our events
💪 Strengthen our volunteer network
📢 Reach more people experiencing loneliness
🌱 Build a sustainable future for our charity

If you can, please donate before midnight.

Thank you for helping us continue this work. Your support truly makes a difference.

Help us to create real, human impact at Activate Mental Health. Donate before the end of this financial year.

Behind every event we run is someone who arrives feeling unsure, isolated or disconnected. They leave feeling welcomed, seen and part of something bigger.

One of those people is Debbie.

After years of feeling alone, she came along to an Activate event and found a community that embraced her with warmth, humour and genuine care.

Her words say it all:

“I found friendship, joy, and a sense of belonging I didn’t know I was missing.”

Read Debbie’s full story:

https://www.activatemh.com.au/post/finding-friendship-and-joy-debbie-s-story-with-activate-mental-health

And it’s not just participants who feel the impact. Our volunteers do too. During National Volunteer Week, they shared:

“I’ve grown so much as a person.”
“I’ve found purpose again.”
“I love seeing people walk in nervous and leave smiling.”

As we approach EOFY, your donation helps us:

🌱 Run more free and low‑cost events
💚 Support and train volunteers
📍 Expand to new suburbs
👨‍💻 Build long‑term sustainability

If you’re able, please consider making a tax‑deductible contribution before 30 June.

Thank you for helping us build a more connected Perth.
