Genealogy SA Library Tours – last Tuesday of the month

Learn about our fantastic family history resources and the best way to navigate our extensive collections. Suitable for visitors, new members or current members who would like to get to know our library better.

In 2026, our library tours will run twice monthly: on the second Saturday at 2pm, and on the last Tuesday at 11am, from January to November. No booking required, and the tour is FREE for Genealogy SA members ($20 for visitors, includes full-day access to our library resources with volunteer assistance).

NEW DATABASE UPDATE! 37,000+ records added to South Australian Church Records – Other.

We have more than DOUBLED the number of records held in this database, including Sunday School attendance records, Member Rolls, Lists of Trustees, Lists of Confirmed (and non-confirmed) members, choir members and meeting attendees.

To learn more about each dataset (including information about the records, the source and the coverage periods) head to the Online Database Search and look for the link to the PDF data sheets in the right hand column.

Are you ready to take the next step in your DNA analysis journey? Want to prove So you want to start mapping your chromosomes – but how? Join us for this online seminar incorporating some practical exercises you will undertake to learn how to get the most out of DNA mapping.

The workshop will cover the basic features of DNA Painter and demonstrate the basics of chromosome mapping so that you can create your own genetic family tree. You will receive guidance on interpreting results and be shown some advanced techniques such as how to manipulate DNA match segments to reflect inheritance from an earlier common ancestor, resulting in a more accurate genetic map.

You will be supported to practice these skills during the workshop, with ample opportunity for Q&A.

NEW DATABASE UPDATE! Newspaper Deaths – almost 46,000 records added!

This is the latest update of records, this time incorporating records from numerous metro and country newspapers extending coverage to December 2024. There are also new records from the David Gibson Death Index. Coverage is now from 1839 to December 2024, with varying degrees of coverage.

Be a part of expanding and improving Genealogy SA's databases – join us for our next working bee!

📅 Sunday 16 August, 10am to 3.30pm
🥪 Tea, coffee, fruit juice, fruit and a subway lunch are provided.
👩‍💻 Tasks and projects vary, but can include data entry, checking, and corrections, as well as image renaming.

For Wednesdays @ 1 next month, join Lainie Anderson Author as she shares her journey from historical research to historical fiction.

Kate C***s was a household name in early twentieth-century Adelaide, internationally recognised for her groundbreaking work as the first equally-paid policewoman in the British Empire. When she wasn’t patrolling the city with a five-foot cane to separate canoodling couples, she was marching young women out of o***m dens and forcing abusive husbands to their knees to recite the Lord’s Prayer.

By the turn of the century, however, Kate C***s had been all but lost to history. In 2024, South Australian author Lainie Anderson completed a PhD researching C***s’ life and exploring how a work of popular murder mystery could do justice to this significant figure from the past. Lainie’s talk retraces the path from fact to fiction, and the opportunities and challenges of bringing real characters back to life.
