Meet Kathy, one of our dedicated Community Care volunteers.

After more than 20 years volunteering with older people in both community and residential aged care settings, Kathy understands the incredible impact of connection.

“Volunteering certainly fulfils my life in a very special way because I see and feel the difference my weekly visits make.”

For Kathy, volunteering is about friendship, listening, sharing stories, and reminding older people that they are valued.

“Older people have so much knowledge and experience. Hearing their stories and sharing time together creates beautiful friendships.”

Volunteering creates connection for both the person receiving support and the person giving their time.

📦 Behind every event, there’s a team like this.

When people see St John SA at an event, they see the frontline support. What they don’t always see is the team making sure everything is ready before the first patient, first call, or first moment of need.

We’re looking for Operational Support Volunteers to help keep our vehicles, equipment and supplies moving.

No clinical experience needed. Just bring your energy, reliability and willingness to be part of a team.

You could be:

🔧 Preparing and cleaning fleet vehicles
📦 Restocking kits and supplies
🚚 Picking, packing and delivering equipment
🏕️ Helping set up and pack down events

If you like practical work, staying active and getting things done, this could be the role for you.

Loneliness doesn’t always look like being alone.

As we recognise Loneliness Week (3–9 August), we’re sharing the importance of connection and the difference a conversation, a shared activity, or a regular visit can make.

Older people can experience loneliness for many reasons - retirement, changes in health, losing friends and family, moving homes, or having fewer opportunities to connect with others.

You don’t need to live alone to feel lonely. Carers can also experience isolation, even while caring deeply for someone else.

At St John Community Care, we believe everyone deserves to feel valued, heard, and connected.

Through meaningful friendships, practical support, and community connections, our volunteers help older people continue doing the things that matter to them.

📍 We had a special visitor at the St John Ambulance SA stand at the Camping & Caravan Show... none other than South Aussie with Cosi! 🙌

Cosi stopped by to check out our range of first aid kits and is helping spread the word about being prepared for every adventure. Whether you're hitting the road in your caravan, heading bush, or enjoying a weekend by the beach, having the right first aid kit on hand can make all the difference.
