5 days in Sydney for The Convergence of Rebellious Midwives organised by Mel the Midwife and Reteach Breech with Dr Stu from Birthing Instincts
We watched Djäkamirr again, they’re desperate to get midwives on board- if anyone has the ability to go up and support them reach out!
Such beautiful connection with some of the most amazing people in the birth world. Also highlight being held by Jane Hardwick-Collins and trying not to fan girl too hard!
I can’t mention everything in one post, but continuing breech skills and also learning more about twins feeds my soul ✨

A huge thank you to all the speakers, what amazing information, we need to keep building and supporting the big tree, the little shrubs and the ground cover 🌳🍃🪻🍄

What does it mean to be a Midwife?

As a midwife I live deep in the space of generational journeys
My role in the world includes holding space in the in-between, from early pregnancy to the postpartum and beyond- not just the “day of birth”
When I meet each family I don’t know what our relationship will look like in the future. I prepare myself to be open and genuine with them and get to know who they are. I come with knowledge, but also a commitment of sharing of that knowledge in the best way I can for each family

It is the most powerful moment when I’m invited into this space by a family for a second or third time. As the connection gets deeper and I journey again with them.

Thank you to each family that chooses me to come along with them on their journey of discovery of their baby and of themselves

This little bubba was in so much of a rush that Mumma ended up with a land birth while the pool was filling!

Sometimes we just need to change our plans, so into the beautiful warm water to relax an snuggle with baby for a while after birth 💕

Birth is so magical and powerful, but it is also a time of incredible transition. For the baby, for the women and also for our whole world as we gain a beautiful new person. Time and space expand and contract as our world gets to welcome this little baby for the first time.

This image shows a beautiful moment at a recent birth as this first time mum recognised her baby was close to emerging and she WAS doing it!

Being a midwife includes getting to be witness these incredible, powerful moments.

I’m so blessed to be trusted in this space

Thanks Sharni and Chris for allowing me to share this image with everyone 💕

Not birth related- just a proud mum post!

If you’ve known me a while you will have heard about my middle kid. He decided to go to formal in an ice-cream truck.
Congratulations on graduation today, all the class of 2023 and all the parents that are watching their babies on the transition to adulthood- what ever that looks like for them 💕🎉

(This is the photo he approved to be shared on my business page 😄)

Discharge appointments- sometimes I wish I had a “before” photo from our booking appointment to see such growth and change for each family!

I meet this Mumma and her partner early in their journey, and we had no idea what was in store!
Such a beautiful team this couple made. Facing every change and every challenge together.

So many lessons learnt in navigating the unexpected with this new family. Thank you for welcoming me into your journey K and C and baby L💕thank you for trusting me x

A little moment in our day.
In a mostly unplanned way we ended up in the same place, dressed in matching colours.
The coming summer and the Queensland warmth dominates our experiences at the moment. I still wish for the nice, cool winter, I can appreciate the ongoing cycles of nature and how in life we’re always journeying through those cycles too

I’m also so blessed to work with such powerful women!

I have been a busy midwife recently and social media gets dropped off when things get busy!

But last week I had a little space between appointments, so I stopped and had an ice cream at the Strawberry farm. Just a little bit of self care in the middle of it all

Optimal cord clamping for all babies. So happy to hear this is becoming more and more common in complex care situations.

This poster is designed for supporting timing of cord clamping at a c/s. Now just to get bedside neonatal resuscitation into Australian hospitals and we will be making real change.

**NEW A3 POSTER FOR FREE ORDER**

So to celebrate our presence at the Royal College of Midwives Annual Conference 2019, BloodtoBaby brings you a new resource!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As practice begins to move towards stabilisation of the neonate with an intact placental circulation we felt more needed to be done at Caesarean section.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s our latest blog explaining all with an image of our new poster developed by members of the team; Professor Andrew Weeks, ANNP George Brooks and myself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 Offer parents a gentle caesarean
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 Agree the process with the theatre team and paediatricians
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 If resuscitation is expected, then bring equipment to the bedside
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡Ideally 2 minutes DCC
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 Give oxytocin as usual theatre protocol
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 Dry the baby; keep warm in sterile drape at the abdomen
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 Do not lift the baby up (avoid the lion king pose!)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 Surgeons place clamps at uterine angles
