Congratulations Winter on the receiving the star of the week award for saying your ‘ee’ sound so perfectly. Winter has been receiving PROMPT speech intervention and finds sounds that involve lip retraction very challenging. Great work Winter and Mum Lucy for all the hard work you put into Winter’s homework phrases. It makes all the difference🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I first learnt about the Early Start Denver Model or ESDM in my visits to early intervention programs for Autism (ASD) in Melbourne before I became a speech Pathologist, we studied it as a best practice model for ASD early intervention during my training, it’s come up numerous times in my practice, and a recent ASD seminar reminded me of this fantastic approach. I’m excited to start ESDM training and to bring what I learn into practice supporting families. Check the link in the comments for more information. Ruthie x

Great News!! I have just heard from the Helensvale Community and Cultural Centre and, as an essential service, they are very excited to welcome Speech Pathology Solutions back for our Thursday morning clinic. At this stage, I am looking to re-open the clinic from the 28th of this month. If you usually attend Helensvale and would like to go back to clinic sessions or would like to start accessing the service please get in touch. The clinic is offered as a service to clients who would like to reduce any travel expenses related to their service. The centre asks clients to wait in their cars before sessions rather than in the waiting area. Usual hand washing and hygiene protocols apply. Ruthie x

Here’s some images of my favourite keyword signs. Key Word Sign (KWS) is a great tool to improve functional communication. It works really well for children with Down Syndrome who have been found to be very visual and Children with Autism who benefit from making our communication more interesting and exciting, and may need some extra help learning language and in initiating communication. For all children who are learning language, KWS aides comprehension and can support language learning. Give some of these a try. I'm trying to even up the balance of photo's a little as most of the photos associated with the clinic feature kiddos. I work with children but also adults with neurological conditions, providing support for clients with dysphagia (swallowing difficulties), aphasia (an acquired neurologically-based language condition), and dysarthria (neurologically-based speech difficulties). I offer assessment and intervention which may include supporting clients with their AAC needs (alternative communication devices). I'm lucky to enjoy my work with adults and children equally :)

I've been delivering literacy intervention using the Sounds-Write approach for a while now and love it! The program takes a phonetically systematic, kinesthetic, and practical approach to support struggling readers and it works a treat. This is a link to a free parent training program.
