Sand is more than just the base of a Sandtray. 🤎

It’s tactile, sensory and part of the therapeutic process.

Hands can dig, smooth, rake, pour, shape and create — using simple tools to build sand worlds, pathways, boundaries and stories.

A symbol says what words can’t.

In Sandtray Therapy, every miniature can hold meaning — a feeling, a person, a memory, a challenge, a hope.

There’s no right symbol to choose.
The meaning belongs to the person who selects it 🤍

That’s the beauty of Sandtray — letting the story unfold without needing all the words.

🧠 Medical Trauma and Our Little People 🧠

Unfortunately, I witness the impact of medical trauma far too often with kiddos I support in my nursing role.

Many people who have experienced medical trauma find it hard to keep engaging with their health care — appointments feel heavier, information feels harder to take in, and mental health can be deeply affected, carers included.

A physical or emotional response that occurs when an experience within a healthcare setting feels frightening or overwhelming — whether it’s a brief appointment, a procedure, a treatment plan, or receiving a diagnosis.

🤍 Having the right support can make all the difference to guide these difficult interactions.

🌈 Please keep reaching out until you find the care, understanding and advocacy you deserve.

💫

Tactile Expressive Sandtray Therapy offers a powerful way to express and process these experiences—without needing words.

A sandworld story in Sandtray therapy is the meaningful narrative that emerges from a miniature scene an individual creates in the sand 🤲🏻

Instead of telling a story or experience with words, the individual can build it visually and symbolically using figures and objects known as symbols 🪷🌱🎍

What does this mean? 🤔

When an individual creates a sandworld, they are:
• Placing figures (people, animals, objects)
• Positioning them in certain ways (close, far, hidden, buried, elevated)
• Creating environments (safe places, chaos, barriers, journeys)

🌱 🪺🍁🪷🌙💫🔥🌈❄️🫧🎨🎭🎲🧩🚨🚧🎢🏥 All of this together forms a “world” and that world tells a story about an individuals feelings and experience without needing to find the words.

💫 Ever wondered what Sandtray therapy actually looks like? 💫

Come and take a little sneak peek inside my therapy space… a place designed for safety, creativity, and connection 🤍

Sandtray therapy is a gentle, expressive approach that allows children (and adults) to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences using miniature figures and sand. No pressure to “find the right words” — the process unfolds naturally through play and symbolism.

So… how does it work?
🌿 You choose figures that feel meaningful
🌿 Create scenes in the sand
🌿 We explore the story together (at your pace)

It’s especially powerful for:
• Anxiety
• Medical or procedural trauma
• Big emotions
• Life changes
• Building confidence and resilience

💭 Why Sandtray?
Because sometimes the things we need to express can’t be said out loud — but they can be shown, felt, and understood.

📍 You’ll find me in Nerang, creating a calm and welcoming space for children, teens, and families to feel seen and supported

If you’re curious, come take a closer look — connection starts here 🤍

Back to school here in QLD this week. I always find myself reflecting by the end of the first week 💭 For some little ones - it’s Joy, for other little ones it’s anxiety or sadness, anger can show up too. Back to school brings BIG feelings not only for our littles but ourselves too. See, feel, connect and in the loud and quiet moments ♥️
