Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare autoimmune neurological condition where the immune system attacks the myelin sheath (the protective coating) around peripheral nerves. This can lead to progressive weakness, numbness, and changes in sensation in the arms and legs that may persist for months or years. Physiotherapy can play an important role in managing symptoms and supporting recovery.

Physio can help people with CIDP build strength, improve balance, and move more confidently. Your physiotherapist will develop a targeted exercise program based on your current abilities to support walking, coordination, and day-to-day function—while also helping you manage fatigue.

Physiotherapists can also assist with gait retraining, falls prevention, and recommending suitable equipment or supports if needed. Because CIDP symptoms can fluctuate, your program is reviewed and adjusted over time to match your goals, progress, and energy levels.

The goal is to help you stay as independent, active, and safe as possible.

If you or someone you care for is living with CIDP our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Types of Brain Injury
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): Caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that disrupts normal brain function.
- Acquired Brain Injury (ABI): An umbrella term for any brain damage occurring after birth, including TBIs, strokes, or infections.
- Concussion: A type of mild TBI that can affect brain function, often resulting from a direct blow to the head.

Common Causes
- Trauma: Falls, sports, motor vehicle accidents, and assaults.
- Medical Conditions: Stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, tumor, infection (encephalitis/meningitis), or lack of oxygen (hypoxia).
- Toxins/Alcohol: Substance misuse or toxic exposure that affects brain function over time.

Recovery from a brain injury can be complex, and support often needs to be tailored to the individual.

Physiotherapy can help improve movement, strength, balance, and coordination after brain injury. Treatment may focus on walking practice, posture, and rebuilding control in affected limbs, with goals set around what matters most to you.

Physiotherapists can also help manage muscle stiffness (spasticity, rigidity), reduce falls risk, and support a safe return to everyday activities. Therapy may include exercise-based rehabilitation, hands-on techniques, and functional training to make daily tasks easier, with your program reviewed and progressed over time.

Recovery after brain injury looks different for everyone—but with the right support, meaningful progress is always possible.

If you or someone you care for is recovering from a brain injury, our team is here to guide and support you along the way.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition caused by a loss of dopamine-producing brain cells. It can affect movement and muscle control, leading to symptoms such as tremor, stiffness (rigidity), and slowed movement (bradykinesia). While there is no cure, treatment and therapy can help manage symptoms and maintain quality of life.

Parkinson’s can change the way you move and go about daily activities, and it may increase the risk of falls over time. Physiotherapy can make a real difference.

Physio can help improve mobility, walking, posture, and overall movement quality. Targeted exercises may assist with stride length and walking speed, while balance training and strengthening can help reduce the risk of falls. Physiotherapists can also teach strategies and cueing techniques to manage stiffness, freezing episodes, and day-to-day fluctuations in movement.

Regular physiotherapy can help you stay active and independent for longer. Your program is personalised to your goals and may include functional practice for everyday tasks, home exercises, and practical tips to help you move more safely and efficiently.

Staying active is one of the most important things you can do when living with Parkinson’s—and you don’t have to do it alone.

If you or someone you care for is living with Parkinson’s, our team will be here to support you at each stage of your care journey.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that influences how a person communicates, interacts, learns, and experiences the world. It may involve differences in social communication, sensory processing, and patterns of behaviour or interests. Because it is a spectrum, ASD presents differently for each person and support needs can vary over time.

Occupational therapy can support people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to develop practical skills for everyday life and participate more comfortably at home, school, work, and in the community.

OTs can help with sensory processing differences by identifying triggers and teaching strategies to manage sensitivities to noise, light, touch, or movement. This can make everyday environments feel more predictable and comfortable.

OTs also support daily living skills such as dressing, eating, personal care, handwriting, and organisation. For children, therapy often focuses on building routines, improving attention and classroom participation, and developing skills that support learning.

For teens and adults, OT may focus on executive functioning (planning, organisation, and time management), emotional regulation, and social communication—supporting success with work, study, and independent living.

Most importantly, OT is person-centred—guided by each individual’s strengths, priorities, and the supports that work best for them and their family.

If you or someone you care for is living with ASD our OT team is here to support you along the way.

A stroke occurs when blood supply to part of the brain is disrupted, causing brain cells to be damaged. This can happen due to a blocked artery (ischaemic stroke) or bleeding from a ruptured blood vessel (haemorrhagic stroke). High blood pressure is a major risk factor, as it can contribute to artery narrowing or weaken blood vessel walls.

Recovery after a stroke can feel overwhelming, but the right support can make a huge difference.

Physiotherapy plays a vital role in helping people regain movement and independence after a stroke. A tailored program can improve strength, balance, coordination, and walking, while also reducing the risk of falls and other complications.

Sessions may include exercise-based rehabilitation, hands-on therapy, and functional practice to build confidence with everyday activities—such as walking safely, getting in and out of a chair, dressing, or returning to hobbies you enjoy.

Recovery looks different for everyone, but with the right support, progress is always possible.

If you or someone you care for is navigating life after stroke, our team will support you throughout your care and recovery.
