VisAbility was proud to attend the 2026 Round Table on Information Access for People with Print Disabilities Conference as a Bronze Sponsor, joining sector leaders from across Australia and New Zealand to explore ways to create a more accessible future.

A highlight was our Senior Digital Accessibility Specialist, Vithya Vijayakumare, presenting Helper and Hinderer: AI and Digital Accessibility, which examined both the opportunities and responsibilities of using AI to improve access to information. We’re also delighted that Vithya has joined the Round Table Executive Team.

Leone and Sam from our braille team, along with Ryan from our Youth Support team — also attended the conference, returning with valuable insights to help strengthen the services and support we provide to our community. Thank you to Round Table for another inspiring event.

We aren't far away from Deafblind Awareness Week 2026, which runs from June 22 to 28, and coincides with the birthday of Helen Keller on June 27! Every year, the Deafblind community comes together to raise awareness, celebrate its members, and advocate for inclusion and accessibility.

This year, Deafblind West Australians is hosting a Morning Tea Celebration at Perth City Farm on Wednesday 24 June, 9am - 11.30am. There you will find a Deafblind Community Art Exhibition, a Q&A Panel with DBWA Young Leaders graduates, a theatrical performance featuring deafblind actor Eddie Szczepanik, and the Graduation Ceremony for DBWA Young Leaders 2026.

If you would like to RSVP for their event, please reach out to them directly at [email protected]. And get in fast, as RSVPs close on June 12.

For the artists featured in VisAbility’s first public art exhibition, Beyond Vision, the event is about more than displaying their work.

Each painting, mosaic, pottery item or handcrafted piece of timber created by artists involved in programs at the Community Activity Centre (CAC) represents a personal triumph over barriers and celebration of community.

“While visitors will see an impressive collection of artwork on display, what they will really be seeing are stories… of people discovering possibilities they never imagined for themselves,” CAC Coordinator Marcelo Prates said.

Beyond Vision event details:
Opening Night: 17 July (5:30pm – 7:30pm)
Exhibition Dates: 17 July – 4 August
Location: Kent Street Gallery – Victoria Park Centre for the Arts
