Sometimes a small insight arrives at just the right moment. I’ve been writing about the quiet shifts we make inside ourselves — the ones that change how we move through the world. If you feel like reading something gentle and reflective, here’s my latest piece.

Healing is rarely a single moment of clarity. It’s a slow, layered, and deeply nuanced pilgrimage — one where we gradually become aware of the impulses that drive our own behaviours. As our self understanding deepens, something else often happens alongside it: we begin to grow curious about the ...

UNDERSTANDING ISN'T PERMISSION!!

There’s a moment in healing when we finally realise that understanding someone’s behaviour and allowing it are two very different things. Many of us were raised - or conditioned through trauma - to believe that if we can see the pain behind someone’s actions, we should soften, make allowances, forgive quickly, or absorb the impact quietly. We confuse self‑abandonment with empathy, and self‑erasure with compassion.

But healthy self‑care emerges when we can hold both truths at once:
I understand why you behave this way - and I still cannot allow it.

Recognising that someone’s reactions come from old wounds, fear, or trauma doesn’t mean we must tolerate the harm those reactions cause. Insight is not a free pass. Pain is not an excuse. And repeating patterns - especially those that hurt us more than once -are invitations to step out of the cycle, not deeper into it.

When we continue to excuse hurtful behaviour simply because we know its origin, we end up abandoning ourselves. We override our own needs, minimise our own pain, and slowly disconnect from our own inner safety. This is one of the most subtle forms of self‑betrayal - and one of the most detrimental to our wellbeing.

Healthy boundaries don’t mean we love less.
They mean we love ourselves enough to stop absorbing what was never ours to carry.

Empathy is powerful.
Understanding is beautiful.
But neither requires us to stay in harm’s way.

This is where true healing begins: in the space where compassion and self‑respect finally stand side by side.
