To Ben and Toby Beattie at BT Bullbars the grubs that took over Mr Bullbar I’ve been reading the messages from John’s past customers, and one thing is painfully clear — he earned something that money can’t buy: genuine respect. People remember him. They remember his work, his character, his honesty and what he built from nothing. And while I read those messages, I can’t help but think about the men who took over the business he spent years building. John handed over the keys in good faith. He trusted you to honour your word and pay him for what he had built. YOU NEVER DID. You took the business. You took what he had worked for. You benefited from years of his time, his effort and his reputation — and somehow thought you could simply walkaway without paying the man who created it. I will never understand how someone can sleep at night knowing they have done that to another person. John created a product that people believed in. He built a business that became respected. He did it through hard work, determination and decades of putting his name behind what he produced. You didn't create that legacy. You inherited it. And no matter how successful you become from what John built, you will never beable to claim the respect that he earned. Because respect isn't something you can take over when you take over a business. It has to be earned. And judging by the messages people are leaving for John now that he is gone, he earned plenty of it. You may have thought that by refusing to pay him, you had won. You may have thought that because enough time passed, nobody would remember. You may even think that because john is no longer here, the matter is finished. IT ISN’T He can't stand in front of you now and ask you why you did it. He can't demand what he was owed. He can't tell you how deeply you disappointed him. But I am still here. And I haven't forgotten. And I will dedicate the rest of my days to seeing that you pay with so much more than money ever would have cost you So while people are remembering John for the man he was, the business he built and the way he treated people, I hope you remember something too: You didn't build what you took over. You were simply handed the keys to something another man spent years creating. And you never paid him for it. That's not success. That's not integrity. And it certainly isn't something to be proud of. John may be gone, but his name, his work and the respect he earned will outlive anything you managed to take from him. And one day, when there is nobody left to impress, you will have to answer to yourselves about what you did to him. He deserved better.
