There's still a few more days to sign up to our August Puppy Preschool class! Class starts on Tuesday 4th of August at 6pm.

Puppy Preschool is a great way to start your puppy off on the right paw and help them grow into confident dogs who are eager to listen to you. This class is run by our Canine Educator and will help you teach your puppy all the basics they need as well as make sure you're up to date on all the healthcare information you need to keep your puppies happy and healthy!

Important Pet Safety Alert! 🐱🐶🐭

We've noticed a concerning increase in rat bait toxicities recently, and we want to make sure every pet parent is aware of the risks.

Rat bait isn't just dangerous to rodents; it poses a severe threat to other species in two main ways:

1️⃣ Direct Ingestion: If a curious pet finds and eats the bait.
2️⃣ Secondary Poisoning: If a pet (especially cats and dogs) hunts and eats a rodent that has already consumed the poison.

Signs of poisoning can include lethargy, vomiting, difficulty breathing, bleeding (from gums, nose, or in urine/stool), and seizures. These symptoms can take days to appear, so early detection is critical.

Finding the right solution can be tricky. If you’re unsure if somethings safe for your pet, we’re here to help!

If you think your pet has been exposed to rat bait, contact your veterinarian immediately. Please don't wait for symptoms to develop.

We have a CT scanner right here in our hospital!

Computed Tomography (CT) is one of the most advanced diagnostic tools available in veterinary medicine. Because CT scanners are not widely available in general veterinary practice, access to this technology can make a significant difference in diagnosing complex conditions.

Unlike a standard X-ray, which produces a single flat image, a CT scanner captures hundreds of images from multiple angles to create exceptionally detailed views of an animal's body.

Why does that matter?

🐶 It can detect problems that may be difficult or impossible to identify on traditional X-rays.

🐱 It helps diagnose conditions sooner, leading to more targeted treatment plans.

Friendship Knows No Species! 🐶🐶🐱

At the moment, we have the privilege of boarding this incredible trio; Trevor, Mona Lisa, and Tiggy... and they've completely won our hearts.

While cats and dogs are often famous for their differences, these three couldn't care less about stereotypes. They relax together, explore together, and keep each other company as if they were littermates. Watching their bond has been a beautiful reminder that friendship isn't limited by species.

The old saying "fighting like cats and dogs" doesn't tell the whole story. With positive introductions, patience, and compatible personalities, cats and dogs can form strong, lifelong friendships.

💛 Senior Dog Appreciation Post 💛

Age is just a number... and Goldie is proving it every single day. 🐾

Meet Goldie, the gorgeous Golden Kelpie who is now over 17 years young! She visited us today for some diagnostic tests, and as always, she was an absolute sweetheart.

Senior pets hold such a special place in our hearts. They've spent years being loyal companions, sharing adventures, offering comfort, and filling our lives with unconditional love. As they get older, regular veterinary check-ups and diagnostics become even more important to help us detect age-related changes early and keep them feeling their best.

Goldie is a wonderful reminder that with plenty of love, attentive care, and a little extra support along the way, our senior pets can continue to enjoy a happy and comfortable life.

Missing Bunny - Do you know me?

This sweet little bunny was found by a kind member of the public in the Kooringal area and is now safe in our care.

As you can see, I'm very friendly, happy to be cuddled, and thankfully appear to be relatively unscathed. I'm a little bit sad and must be missing my family, and I'd love to find my way back home.

With recent bird flu concerns, we’re asking our local community to be cautious around sick or dead wild birds.

If you see a sick or dead bird:

📸 Take a photo if it is safe to do so
📍 Note the location
☎️ Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888
🚫 Do not touch or move the bird
🐾 Keep children, pets and other animals well away

Bird flu can affect birds, people and pets. While infection in people and pets is uncommon, it can be very serious if contracted, so it is important to avoid direct contact and report concerns promptly.

If you have a pet bird booked for an appointment, please call Lake Road Vet Hospital before coming in so our team can give you special instructions.
