Larissa’s journey has not been easy.
After experiencing addiction throughout much of her twenties, Larissa had several periods of recovery before finding herself returning to substance use. Following the birth of her children and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, she reached a point where she knew she needed more support.
Larissa continued applying to rehabilitation programs, and when an opportunity became available at CRDAC, she took a leap of faith.
She completed three months of residential rehabilitation, participating in group sessions, individual counselling, Narcotics Anonymous meetings, daily journalling, structured routines, walks, barbecues and weekly gym sessions. Larissa says each part of the program helped her better understand addiction, address childhood trauma and develop strategies that continue to support her today.
Her advice to others is simple:
“On the hard days, give yourself one more day. Sleep on it, take things one day at a time and find something that helps you through.”
For Larissa, that included music, her Bible, diamond art and Sudoku.
Today, Larissa is celebrating three years in recovery. She and her husband are both working full-time, they have created a safe and stable home, and their four children are thriving.
An incredible achievement, Larissa. Your strength, courage and determination are truly inspiring. 👏✨👏✨👏✨
