Congratulations to National Mary Potter Award Finalist, Pauline Pitkin!

We are proud to celebrate Pauline Pitkin, Registered Midwife at Calvary Riverina, who was recognised as a finalist in the 2025 National Mary Potter Awards. Pauline was nominated for her compassionate, person-centred care, her calm and reassuring presence, and her unwavering commitment to supporting women and families through some of life's most significant moments.

Known for making patients feel safe, heard and valued, Pauline goes above and beyond to care for the whole person, physically, emotionally and spiritually. She is also a trusted mentor to students and colleagues, generously sharing her knowledge and supporting excellence in maternity care.

As Mary Potter said, “Let us be kind to one another and never weary of doing good.” Pauline lives these words every day through her kindness, professionalism and dedication to the Calvary values of Hospitality, Healing, Stewardship and Respect.

Thank you, Pauline, for the extraordinary difference you make to women, babies, families and colleagues. We are incredibly proud of your achievement.

Over the past fortnight we have celebrated International Midwives Day, Mother’s Day and International Nurses Day, a trifecta of celebrations that embody maternal love.

The maternal heart is at the heart of Calvary’s mission, lived out through the compassionate care of all our staff and volunteers, but in a particular way by our nurses.

As we count down to our centenary celebrations, we acknowledge all those who have nursed patients at Calvary Riverina Hospital and thank them for being the face of compassionate care.

We give particular thanks to those who are just beginning their nursing careers like Ella Fellows who began as a New Graduate Nurse in February this year, following in the footsteps of her mum, Jody Fellows, who joined Calvary in 1998.

Jody is a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife and is the Nurse Unit Manager of our maternity and women’s health unit.

Ask around Wagga and you’ll find most people have some kind of connection to Calvary Riverina Hospital.

Maybe they were born here. Maybe they’ve worked here. Or sat beside someone they love here.

That’s what 100 years of care looks like. Stories of support and connection, over the years.

Calvary Riverina Hospital has been part of the Riverina for generations, so it feels right to mark it together.

Join us throughout the year as we celebrate 100 years of care. Visit our website to explore upcoming Centenary events: https://ow.ly/VybG50YXinz

“Midwives are key to improving birth outcomes for mothers everywhere. As a mother and as a clinician, I will forever be grateful for the guidance and reassurance I have received from midwifery colleagues over the years.” — Dr Rebecca Trethowan, Obstetrician at Calvary Riverina Hospital

This week, we’re recognising the vital role midwives play in maternity care.

A Wagga Wagga local who recently returned to practise in the region, Dr Trethowan works closely with midwives to support women and families through pregnancy, birth and beyond, helping deliver safe, compassionate care close to home.

Over the years, countless members of the community have walked through the doors of Calvary Riverina Hospital. Some arriving in a hurry. Some staying longer than they expected. Some saying goodbye.

If you’ve spent time at Calvary Riverina Hospital, you’ll know that the care you or your loved ones have received goes beyond medical treatment.

It’s the people. The way someone checks in. The small things that make a hard day feel a little easier. As we mark 100 years, we’re thinking about all those moments. The ones that don’t make headlines, but stay with you.

We’d love you to be part of it as we mark the year. Join us in celebrating 100 years of care and visit our website to explore upcoming events: https://ow.ly/gEeY50YS6EE
