Protect your baby from RSV before they arrive – A free RSV vaccine is available for eligible pregnant women under the National Immunisation Program.

The vaccine is recommended from 28 weeks of pregnancy and is available for free if you hold, or are eligible for, a Medicare card.

Vaccination during pregnancy is the safest way to help protect newborn babies against RSV and serious complications, reducing the risk of severe RSV disease in infants under 6 months of age by about 70%.

Talk to your GP, midwife or antenatal care provider to see if it is right for you.

🖤 Melanoma of the week: Not all melanomas have colour. Some appear pink, skin‑toned, or barely noticeable at all — which is why relying only on dark or dramatic spots can be misleading.

This melanoma was only found during a routine skin check last week. I did an urgent excision biopsy,
It turned out to be an invasive melanoma Breslow thickness 2 mm

Why it matters
Early detection saves lives. Even subtle or “innocent‑looking” spots can be serious. Regular skin checks — both self‑checks and professional exams — make a real difference.

A heatwave is predicted for our region from Saturday 24 January to Wednesday 28 January 2026, coinciding with the long weekend.

Wagga Wagga City Council is urging residents to plan ahead to stay cool, particularly as many Council facilities and local community centres will be closed on the Australia Day public holiday, Monday 26 January.

If you don’t have air conditioning at home, cool spaces can help you escape the heat. These include air-conditioned community facilities, local pools and shopping centres.

🇦🇺 Australia Day public holiday: A temporary Cool Centre will be open on Monday 26 January at the Seniors Community Centre, 104 Tarcutta Street, Wagga Wagga, from 9am–5pm, with air-conditioned spaces, bathrooms and drinking water available.

🏝️ Oasis Aquatic Centre will be open over the weekend, including Monday. Please note it is expected to be extremely busy and capacity will be capped. Check Wagga Leisure social media for updates before heading in.

🧊 Find cool spaces across the Murrumbidgee – MPHN has a list of the region's cool spaces at https://mphn.org.au/cool-spaces – Please contact individual councils for public holiday opening hours.

For more information about the heatwave and staying safe, visit:
https://wagga.nsw.gov.au/community/health-and-safety/public-health-and-safety/heatwaves

Please check in on older people, neighbours and anyone who may be more vulnerable during extreme heat.
