There is no physical barrier that we can’t overcome with a little bit of effort and forethought.
Michelle one of my longtime Mates has overcome great adversity with her mobility but still loves the great outdoors and really wanted to try her hand at panning.
But with some mobility issues and a flooded creek we had to think outside the box.
With a little effort I was able to collect a bucket of pay dirt and Michelle managed to have a good crack at panning, even getting a good bit of colour as well.
A great day chasing gold with a beautiful view to boot.. Well done Michelle.

I’m lucky enough to post the brighter side of mental health and disability support from time to time.
The big smiles and beautiful places and I get the satisfaction that I may have for just a moment helped those who may have physical or mental barriers that they need assistance to overcome.
What a lot of people don’t see is the darker sides of support.
The both physically and mental war zone my participants sometimes face day to day.
It’s not exactly something I can say hey!! Your going through the wars let’s catch this moment and post it on social media to prove your disability or mental illness.
But it’s a reality that comes with the job.
I am blessed to have such amazing participants who face such unbelievable adversity and yet still manage to achieve unbelievable goals in life with little complaints.
But among the the fantastic people and unbelievable results my participants have won hard to gain unfortunately I have my retractors.
There are those who see the brighter side of my work and openly criticise the moments of joy they experience stating that they don’t deserve it or it’s not what the NDIS should be for.
I started My Mate Chris with a simple ethos
My support is based around your ability to grow and gain independence.
To support your NDIS goals and assist you to reach them.
So to my critics I will unapologetically continue to do the work that helps my participants achieve there goals and if you feel they are not worthy of the smiles and small wins perhaps walk a mile or 2 in there shoes and consider if those smiles are worthy.

Best way to break down walls and overcome barriers in mental health in my opinion isn’t in a eggshell coloured room with a ikea couch.
The crackling of a fire and fresh brewed tea and the smell of lunch cooking over coals allows one to stop breath and prioritise what’s stopping us from being the best version of ourselves.
Hard conversations and truths are best spoken by a fire in the outdoors not under LED humming lights.

The role of a support worker in a persons life is to support and assist in their growth and independence and to enrich their life.
I tell all my supports that if you need me for the same capacity 2 years down the track from starting then I haven’t done my job well enough.
This is a bitter sweet moment for me.
Ethan was one of my very first participants I worked with when starting in support work.
And when I started MMC one of my very first clients.
I have seen him grow and thrive to a point now where his support hours have been reduced because he is achieving his goals and continues to grow into a absolute success as a young man.
I will miss our weekly adventures and scrambling through the bush looking for geochaches but looking forward to seeing you grow into the fine young man we know you are.

I get a lot of people saying gee you’re lucky to go out and get outside and go fishing or hiking or chasing gold while I get to support fantastic people or as I call them My Mates.
This is by no means a coincidence as to why I provide this kind of service.
I’m a firm believer that being in the outdoors and grounding yourself in nature is key to overcoming both physical and mental health challenges.
For those carrying the mental health load in silence a few hours on the water like a conduit it will allow yourself to slow down and process and even talk about your problems or even taking a few hours to not speak and listen to the sounds of nature and allow it to mend your mind and body.
I myself use this exact technique and why I’m such a huge advocate for it myself, putting my boots on and walking the river has a way of prioritising life in a way that just helps you relax.
We have plenty of Doctors and eggshell coloured rooms with tacky art on the walls and lists of medications 💊 that can be prescribed in a instant but very few places where we can slow down and allow ourselves time to breathe.
My Mate Chris will continue to provide the kind of support where the only problem you may have is a few layers of dirt on your shoes and sore cheeks from smiling

Robert produced the goods this morning just before the bell rung!
I was busy loading the car when I turned around to see Robert with loaded rod connected to this hog of a Cod.
Few quick pics then a fast release ready for the next angler
