🎶 Music Brings Us Together 🎸❤️

Today was filled with smiles, music, and wonderful memories at Adventist Aged Care Wahroonga!

A heartfelt thank you to our care staff member, Raymon, who generously shared his musical talent by singing beautiful songs and playing the guitar for our residents. It was truly heartwarming to see so many residents singing along, smiling, and enjoying the performance.

Moments like these remind us that creating meaningful experiences isn't limited to one team—everyone has the ability to brighten a resident's day. Whether it's through music, conversation, or simply spending time together, small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Thank you, Raymon, for bringing joy to our residents and demonstrating the compassionate spirit that makes our community so special.

Last week, we celebrated Christmas in July with our residents and visitors.

We prepared juicy fruit kebabs, freshly baked scones, and non-alcoholic red and white wine for everyone to enjoy.

Residents and visitors enjoyed glazing their scones with strawberry jam and fresh cream, creating a delicious afternoon tea.

It was heartwarming to see everyone smiling, interacting, laughing, and sharing stories about the times they used to bake and cook scones.

The afternoon was filled with joy, reminiscing, and meaningful conversations, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that everyone thoroughly enjoyed

Adventist Aged Care Wahroonga was honoured to celebrate the incredible 100th birthday milestone of one of our cherished residents, Loma Oxley.
The celebration commenced with welcome from our Managing Director, Brian Swanepoel.

We were privileged to be joined by our distinguished guests, Alister Henskens SC MP, Chantelle Fornari – Community Engagement Manager representing MP Julian Leeser MP, Pr Alban Matohiti – President of the Greater Sydney Conference and Chairman of our Board, and Roshan Mallik our Director of Care.

It was especially heartwarming to welcome the Loma’s family, some who travelled from overseas and other from interstate to share this unforgettable occasion.
The morning was filled with tears, laughter, heartfelt stories, birthday wishes, and joyful cheers as family and friends on life well lived.

Loma was lovingly described as a wonderful mother, an excellent cook, a devoted, grandmother, and a proud great grandmother.
The stories shared highlighted the love, kindness, and legacy she has created over the past 100 years.

A heartfelt thank you to Suzi for preparing and beautiful high tea, savoury treats, delicious sandwiches, variety of sweets.

Thank you Also to Anne our RAO for arranging the celebration, Maria(CQI), Anshika (RAO) and Roshan (DOC) who helped with the decorations and serving and Nino our new chef for his contribution.

Two busloads of curious village residents recently travelled south for a memorable day at the University of Wollongong's Science and Space centre. The scenic drive along the south coast was filled with laughter, conversation and anticipation before everyone immersed themselves in interactive exhibits, fascinating discoveries and the spectacular Planetarium experience. While science was the destination, sharing the journey was just as rewarding. Curiosity never fades, and neither does the joy of discovering something new alongside good friends. Days like these remind us that learning, laughter, connection and especially adventure is timeless – just ask our residents who said it was a day to remember😊

Christmas came a little early at our home as residents and staff embraced the festive spirit during our Christmas in July celebration. The sight of beautifully decorated gingerbread cookies and Christmas pudding with custard, was enough to awaken fond memories of Christmas baking, filling minds with thoughts of the aromas and traditions of festive celebrations. Our talented entertainer had everyone smiling with a wonderful mix of festive classics and old-time favourites. Adding plenty of fun to the afternoon, he even showed off a few dance moves of his own, encouraging laughter and cheerful singalongs along the way. Surrounded by friends, Christmas music and plenty of delicious food and cheer, residents enjoyed a joyful afternoon that lifted spirits, sparked lively chit chat and created another special shared moment together.

Adventist Aged Care Wahroonga is looking for caring volunteer musicians to brighten the lives of our residents through the gift of music.
Whether you play:
• 🎹 Piano
• 🎸 Guitar
• 🎻 Violin
• 🎤 Sing
• 🎷 Saxophone
• 🪕 Ukulele
• Or any other instrument, we would love to hear from you!

What you'll do
• Perform for approximately 30–60 minutes
• Play familiar songs, hymns, classical music or easy listening favourites
• Help create meaningful moments for older people, including those living with dementia
• Bring smiles, conversation and connection through music
No professional performance experience is required—just a kind heart and a passion for sharing your music. Music volunteers can make a real difference to residents' wellbeing and social connection.
