Tradies, when did you last give your shoulders a second thought? ๐จ
Your body is your most important tool. And unlike your ute or your drill, you can't just replace it when it breaks down.
Shoulder injuries are the number one musculoskeletal complaint in the trades and the pattern we see in clinic is almost always the same. A ni**le that started months ago. Pushed through because there was work to do. Now it's waking you up at night, making it hard to reach overhead, and affecting how much you can lift on the job.
The shoulder is a remarkably mobile joint but that mobility comes at the cost of stability.
It relies heavily on four relatively small muscles (the rotator cuff) to keep it centred and protected. Repetitive overhead work, sustained awkward positions, and heavy one-sided loading are exactly the conditions that break those muscles down faster than they can recover.
The good news is that most tradie shoulder injuries, even significant ones, respond very well to the right treatment and rehab. The key is not leaving them too long.
If your shoulder has been talking to you lately, it's worth listening. Early treatment means faster recovery, less time off tools, and a lot less chance of ending up with something serious like a rotator cuff tear or frozen shoulder.
