Violence against women isn't an issue we can leave to police, courts or frontline services to solve.

Prevention starts much earlier, in our homes, workplaces, schools, sporting clubs and communities.

With rates of domestic violence-related and sexual assault rising in the Illawarra, we all have a role in changing the attitudes and behaviours that allow violence to continue.

So, what can we do to make a difference?

An Important Evening of Conversation & First-Hand Experience

We’re sharing this upcoming event hosted by APIL- Association for the Promotion of International Law, featuring UN Commissioner Chris Sidoti and Dr Ruth Mitchell.

Chris Sidoti, a member of the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, East Jerusalem and Israel, will present the Commission’s latest report regarding the systematic destruction of childhood in Palestine.

Dr Ruth Mitchell will also share her first-hand experiences from her recent placement in Gaza, where she cared for children and families under siege. Her presentation will provide insight into the lived reality behind the reports, the human cost of war, and the urgent need for medical access and accountability.

New research has revealed the scale of online abuse facing women in politics - and the worrying impact it is having on whether women choose to run, stay or encourage others to put their hands up.

We stand with the women representing the Illawarra and with every woman who chooses to step into public life.

Political debate is part of democracy. Misogyny, threats and intimidation are not.

Uke Sisterz spreading the joy!

Our wonderful Uke Sisterz recently visited the residents at Mount Warrigal Nursing Home for an afternoon of music, smiles and good company!

It was lovely to see the residents enjoying the familiar songs and joining in with the fun. A big thank you to our Uke Sisterz for sharing their time and talents and bringing some extra joy to the community.

Want to join the Uke Sisterz?
The group meets at the Centre every Thursday from 2–3pm. Beginners are very welcome, no experience necessary!

Come along, learn some songs, have a laugh and meet some wonderful women.

A big thank you Wollongong Homeless Hub for inviting the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre to be part of their Services Day, held as part of Homelessness Week.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, share information about the support available through our Centre, and connect with other local services working to support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

We love opportunities like these that bring local services together, strengthen our connections and help ensure women in our community know where they can turn for support.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to have a chat was great to see you!
