A Special Surrogacy Journey at WGHG 🧡
On 19 July, West Gippsland Healthcare Group's Maternity Nurse Unit had the privilege of supporting a very special birth, helping intended parents Adriana and Nathan welcome their beautiful baby girl, Frankie, with the support of surrogate Janelle.
Leading up to the birth, WGHG's Maternity Unit Manager, Liz, worked closely with both Janelle and Adriana to ensure a clear plan was in place and that everyone felt supported throughout the process.
"We met with both the surrogate and intended mother to discuss expectations, consent processes and plans for the birth and postnatal stay. Our focus was ensuring everyone felt informed, prepared and supported, while creating the best possible environment for bonding between the intended parents and their baby," she said.
Janelle's journey to becoming a surrogate began several years ago.
"I really wanted to help someone become parents and experience all the feelings I have as a mum," she said.
Janelle said seeing Adriana and Nathan become parents has been incredibly rewarding.
"Watching them with Frankie gives me the warmest feeling, knowing what I have done for them," Janelle said.
Adriana praised the care provided by the maternity team throughout the surrogacy journey.
"We had a fantastic experience at WGHG. Surrogacy births don't happen every day, and the team took extra care of us throughout the whole process. They looked after us and ensured Janelle was cared for on all levels. The support we received was incredible," she said.
Reflecting on life with Frankie, Adriana shared:
"Life with Frankie has been truly amazing! She has been the missing piece in our lives, and we are enjoying seeing her grow each day," she said.
From everyone at WGHG, congratulations to Adriana, Nathan, Janelle and baby Frankie. Thank you for allowing us to be part of such a special journey and for sharing your story with our community. 💙
