We are very excited to announce a new Yoga for Mental Health program. The 6-week course will be run by our counsellor and yoga therapist Tanya Neate and our Director Zoe Broomhead. Please see below for course details and booking information.
Places will fill so please don't hesitate to book.

Who is this course for?

Have you every wondered what it is about yoga that has you walking out of class feeling lighter, calmer, more balanced? If you are curious about this, and would like more of that feeling in your life, then this course is for you.

Are you interested in learning about how your mind works and how to keep it healthy? We will explore mental health and issues, such as the effect of trauma, anxiety, stress, and depression, from a psychotherapy and yoga therapy perspective.

Fitness requirements:

No yoga experience is required.

This is a gentle yoga class for all-abilities, offering modifications when necessary. Yoga’s most simple postures are suitable for most people, and are ideal for those recovering from trauma or psychological issues, as they are undemanding, non-competitive, relaxing, and over time toning for the whole body, while soothing physical and mental tensions.

If you do have concerns about an injury or other issues, please get in contact as it may be appropriate to have a private session with Tanya Neate before the course begins.

What to expect:

• Gain a deeper understanding of the mind and how it behaves in the case of stress, trauma, anxiety and depression, and education and tools from a trauma informed perspective.
• Understand a Western and Yogic point of view of the mind and how to support its health.
• Learn yogic tools to support a healthy mind state.
• Discover a felt sense of mind, body, and breath connection, and how to use this to calm your mind.
• Explore the power of your breath to activate your calming, parasympathetic nervous system.
• Receive deeply healing guided relaxation practices at the end of each class.
• Learn yoga practices that help boost cognitive function such as memory, clarity, a calm state for better decision making, learning, and reaction time.
• Feel supported in your learning with weekly take home information and 6 yoga practice videos to enjoy
• Complete the course with a range of tools to support your mental health.

AS a counsellor I am asked why I run anxiety workshops? The answer is pretty simple. It is an effective way to teach people skills to manage life issues. To me it's about being proactive in our community. Offering low cost skills based workshops. This next one is about anxiety.

Anxiety is a normal part of everyday life, yet when out of balance it can take control and reduce your quality of life. This four-session workshop teaches you to understand and learn to be aware of what is happening in your body, providing you with the knowledge and skills to better manage your anxiety. Fear increases anxiety so being educated and skilled reduces this fear and strengthens your understanding and management of anxiety in everyday living:
Dates: 7th May for four consecutive weeks
Time: 7.30pm
Cost:$80 includes materials and light supper.
