Hi everyone,

This short film shares the beginning of our journey with A Lifetime of Memories. After the passing of our grandmother, we wanted to find a special way to preserve her story and keep her memory alive. That’s when we came up with the idea of creating short films or slideshows that can be linked to a QR code.

These QR codes can be placed on a headstone, allowing family, friends, and future generations to scan and watch a film about their loved one. It’s a beautiful way to make a visit more personal—going beyond the name on a headstone to truly celebrate a life lived.

It also ensures that stories, images, and memories are never forgotten, giving future generations the chance to connect with those who came before them.

Here’s a short history of people wearing jewellery to remember their loved ones:

For thousands of years, jewellery has been used not only as decoration but also as a way to honour and remember those who have passed away. In ancient Egypt, people wore amulets and lockets that contained hair, ashes, or symbols of the deceased, believing it kept the spirit close. The Romans often carried rings or pendants set with portraits of their loved ones.

During the Middle Ages, Christians in Europe sometimes kept relics of saints in small reliquary pendants, inspiring the practice of keeping mementos of family members. By the Victorian era (1800s), mourning jewellery became very popular, especially after Queen Victoria wore black jewellery in remembrance of Prince Albert. Pieces often contained a lock of hair, miniature portraits, or jet stones carved into sentimental shapes.

In the 20th century, lockets holding photographs became a common way to keep loved ones close to the heart. Today, memorial jewellery has expanded to include ashes, fingerprints, or even soundwaves, combining ancient traditions with modern technology to keep memories alive.

In short: from ancient amulets to Victorian mourning pieces to today’s personalised keepsakes, jewellery has always been a deeply human way of carrying love and memory beyond loss.
