This week, from the 3rd until the 11th of October is Queensland Mental Health Week. This week we're celebrating the importance of connection, belonging and inclusion.

For people with disability, feeling connected to community, having a voice, building relationships and being able to participate in everyday life are all important parts of wellbeing.

Everyone deserves to be part of a community where they feel safe, accepted, valued and respected. When we build communities where everyone belongs, we build wellbeing too.

Information on events near you can be found on the Queensland Mental Health Week website - https://qldmentalhealthweek.org.au/events/

Three years on, how much progress has been made on the Disability Royal Commission recommendations?

Today, the DRC Still Matters coalition has released Australia's first independent Disability Royal Commission Progress Report Card.

We assessed progress on 10 key recommendations and found:

0 fully implemented 2 show some progress 3 are in the early stages

4 show no real action 1 is going backwards

The Disability Royal Commission heard from almost 10,000 people about violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation experienced by people with disability.

Those stories still matter. The recommendations still matter. Accountability still matters.

Read the full report card and see where governments are delivering and where they are falling behind. Read our Report Card at https://thedrcstillmatters.org.au

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices. It’s a fast and reliable way to help people be informed and better prepared during local and national emergencies. It is expected to launch in October 2026.

To get ready, a test message will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia at 2:00pm, Monday, 27 July 2026.

If your device is on, it might vibrate and play a loud, siren-like sound for ten seconds.
For more details including information for people who need extra support and people living with disability, please click on the following link:
https://www.ausalert.gov.au/.../disabilities-extra-support

If you have a 'safe phone' that may be hidden, because the alert is a Critical Alert and will override "silent" or "Do Not Disturb" modes. Thus means that during the test you should turn off completely. It is recommended to keep hidden devices turned off or in aeroplane mode for 24 hours after the test.

Queenslanders with Disability Network's Small Changes, Big Difference Campaign is all about supporting people with disability to understand how home modifications can be requested and installed in private rentals, while also helping property owners adopt best practice in supporting tenants with disability.

Small changes to a rental home can make the biggest difference. Improving accessibility for people with disability can increase the value and appeal of your property and attracting long-term, secure tenants.
