I often see people who I believe would have immensely benefited from seeing a Dietitian years ago, especially teens or adults with fussy eating, mental health conditions, Autism, ADHD, and have high risk of developing diabetes and heart disease.
I can only imagine how much medical nutrition therapy could have optimised their neurological development and learning as a child, their ability to self-regulate and manage behaviour, ability to function and learn skills of self care, as well as build a positive relationship with food to give them a high quality of life, reduce healthcare costs and time in other therapy!
If there is anyone you know with the following conditions please encourage them to see a Dietitian to recieve the best, evidence based and individualised care for their future health and well-being:
- Nutrition deficiency, including iron deficiency- often iron is often only one nutrient identified by blood tests, others need a nutrition assessment by a Dietitian.
- Autism, ADHD, especially with limited dietary intakes
-Fussy eating and restricted diets
-Gut health conditions: constipation, diarhoea, reflux, diverticular disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
-Food intolerances- can look like behaviour and mood issues in kids, skin rashes, headaches, gut issues, poor sleep
-Cardiovascular health including high cholesterol, high blood pressure, reducing risk of stroke, heart attack
-Diabetes including gestational diabetes, insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance
-Weight Management, under or over-eating, comfort eating, sugar cravings
-Malnutrition, weight loss , reduced food intake, poor appetite, nutrition deficiencies
-Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
-Food allergies
-Coeliac Disease
-Liver health
-Cancer including assisting with side effects of treatment such as nausea, poor appetite, taste changes
-Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
-Osteoporosis
-Texture modified diets
-Nutrition through pregnancy and lactation
-Vegetarian and Vegan Nutrition
