For many years, pain was viewed primarily through a structural lens.
Tight muscles.
Weak core.
Poor posture.
“Something out of place.”
But contemporary pain science paints a far more complex picture. 🧠
Pain is shaped by the nervous system, previous experiences, stress physiology, emotions, beliefs, environment, health status, sleep, social support, and much more.
This doesn’t mean pain is “made up.”
It means human beings are complex.
As yoga teachers and yoga therapists, you will come across students managing a variety of conditions and pain.
Movement practices can be incredibly supportive — particularly when they foster agency, adaptability, safety, pacing, and self-awareness.
In our Applied Anatomy + Physiology module, we explore modern pain science through an evidence-informed yoga therapy lens, integrating movement science, somatics, nervous system regulation, and therapeutic application.
Designed for yoga teachers wanting a stronger understanding of the people they work with. ✨
