What a day! Our Winter Open Day brought neighbours, families, and guests together for pumpkin soup, hot chocolate, finger foods, and an afternoon of dancing with the wonderful Freddy.

It was exactly the kind of afternoon that makes Cumberland View feel like home. Read Peita's full recap on the blog. ☕📰

Peita shares her community update from the recent open day from Cumberland View Retirement Village in Wheelers Hill.

Visiting a retirement village for the first time? It's easy to be swept along by the tour and the brochures, but the things that matter most are often the ones nobody points out.

Does it feel genuinely lived in? What do the residents say when you chat to them yourself? What do the fees actually cover?

Our latest blog shares what to really look for when you visit a village, including the questions worth asking and the one thing that tells you more than any brochure ever could.

Read it here: https://www.cumberlandviewretirementvillage.com.au/visiting-a-village/

Better still, put it into practice. Join us at our Winter Open Day on Thursday 16 July, 11am to 3pm, and see Cumberland View for yourself.

Thinking about a move to retirement living is one thing. Talking about it as a family is another.

Whether you're the one quietly considering it, or the adult child unsure how to raise the topic, the conversation goes better when it starts with the positives rather than the worries. More connection, less maintenance, a community on your doorstep.

Our latest blog shares a simple approach to having these conversations well, including the one thing family members can do that helps most.

Websites are curated. Brochures are polished. But no amount of online research can tell you what a retirement village actually feels like to live in.

That's what open days are for.

Wandering at your own pace, asking the questions you can't Google, and chatting to the people who already call the village home.

Our latest blog explains why visiting in person makes all the difference, even if you're only just starting to explore the idea.

Then come and see for yourself. Our Winter Open Day is on Thursday 16 July, 11am to 3pm, at the Cumberland View Community Centre on Whalley Drive, Wheelers Hill.

Winter in retirement can feel different. Without the structure of a working week, it is easy for the days to blur - more time indoors, less movement, fewer people.
Staying well through the cooler months is only partly about warm layers and hearty soup. The other part is connection: having reasons to get up and get out, and familiar faces genuinely nearby when the weather is not cooperating.
That is the part of winter wellness that gets talked about least - and the part that makes the biggest difference.

Living near other people is not the same as living in community. Plenty of people discover this the hard way - a suburb full of neighbours, and days that still stretch out quietly.
Real community is the walk to the hall that takes you past other homes. The morning coffee that turns into a conversation. The game of bowls with someone you might never have met otherwise.
It is not something you can put in a brochure. It is something you have to feel for yourself - which is exactly what our Winter Open Day on 16 July is for.

We talk a lot about location, cost and community when it comes to retirement living, but what about food?

What we eat has a bigger impact on our health, energy and mood as we age than almost anything else. Our latest blog looks at how nutritional needs change over time and how village life makes it easier to eat well.

There's even a chargrilled rump steak recipe in there, perfect for one, on the table in 20 minutes. Proof that cooking for yourself doesn't have to be a chore.

And if you'd like to see what life at Cumberland View is really like, join us at our Winter Open Day on Thursday 16 July, 11am to 3pm

When people compare retirement villages, they ask about the homes, the gardens, the activities. Proximity to a hospital rarely makes the shortlist.
But it is one of the questions people most often tell us they wish they had thought about earlier. Not because they expected to need it - but because knowing expert care is genuinely close changes your relationship with independence.
Cumberland View is seven minutes from Monash Medical Centre, with a village nurse available daily and visiting GPs and allied health specialists on site.

When people start thinking about where they want to live in retirement, stairs rarely come up as the first concern.
But ask anyone who has been living in a well-designed single-level home for a year or two, and stairs will almost certainly come up - not as a regret, but as a relief they didn't quite expect.
Single-level living isn't about giving something up. It's about removing friction from everyday life - and having more energy left for the things that actually matter.
