💙 Men’s Health Week | 15–21 June 💙

This year’s theme, “101 Reasons to See Your GP,” is a reminder that looking after your health doesn’t need to wait until something feels serious.

Many men delay check-ups or push through symptoms, but small conversations and routine appointments can make a big difference. A simple visit to your GP can help build a clearer picture of your health and identify risks early.

A routine check-up may include:
• Body Mass Index (BMI)
• Blood pressure
• Cholesterol levels
• Blood sugar levels

These simple readings can support early detection and help prevent conditions such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes.

If something doesn’t feel right — don’t wait!

Book the appointment. Start the conversation. Prioritise your health.
And encourage a mate, brother, father, son or colleague to do the same.

Please welcome Dr Karhlo - our newest Intern who will be working alongside Dr Rozendaal for the next few months.

"Most people just call me Karhlo, I was born in the Philippines and moved to Australia in 2018. I have worked as both a nurse and a doctor and I enjoy GP work hoping to be one someday in a regional town. Looking forward to meeting the wonderful folk here at Whyalla."

Bowel Cancer is Australia’s second deadliest cancer – with 14,904 people being diagnosed each year.

This month marks an opportunity to promote greater awareness of bowel cancer and regular screening across the community through events and campaigns to inform Australians about the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer, and the importance of screening for early detection and prevention.

Not everyone experiences symptoms, particularly in the early stages of bowel cancer.

But if you experience any of the following symptoms, please make an appointment to discuss with your GP:

Blood in your poo.
Obvious change in your bowel habit.
Weight loss you can’t explain.
Extreme tiredness for no reason.
Lump of swelling in your abdomen.

When diagnosed early, almost 90 percent of bowel cancer cases can be successfully treated.

🩸 Did You Know? National Blood Donor Week is 8–14 June 2026 🩸

Every day, Australians rely on donated blood and plasma for surgeries, cancer treatment, trauma care, childbirth complications, and emergency situations. Many people don’t realise that just one blood donation can help save up to three lives.

National Blood Donor Week, held from 8th–14th June, is a chance to recognise the amazing generosity of blood donors and remind our community how important donations are — especially during winter, when supplies can become lower.

Donating blood is a simple act that can make a life-changing difference for someone in need. If you’ve ever considered becoming a donor, this is the perfect time to learn more and help support patients across Australia.

❤️ Your donation could be the reason someone gets a second chance.

💉 Medical History Fact

The world’s first successful vaccine was created in 1796 by Edward Jenner to protect against smallpox.

He noticed that milkmaids who caught the milder disease “cowpox” rarely became sick with smallpox — one of the deadliest diseases at the time. 🐄🩺

That discovery helped change medicine forever and paved the way for modern vaccines that continue to save millions of lives today. ✨
