This weekโs parkrun had some definite highs, along with an unfortunate low.
Firstly, we want to give a very special shout-out to all of our amazing volunteers today. It was a busy morning for the RD, but everyone pulled together, supported each other and did a fantastic job in their roles. As we always say, parkrun is run by volunteers โ and itโs the people who give up their time each week who make Gawler parkrun the event that so many people speak highly of ๐
Unfortunately, we were disappointed to hear about an incident involving one of our volunteers, who had given up their time at the last minute to fill an essential role and help make sure todayโs event could go ahead.
A participant who had parked on the road blocking other vehicles โ which is not approved parking by Gawler Council โ verbally abused our carpark marshal when asked to move their car.
As Event Directors, we want to be very clear that we do not tolerate abusive or disrespectful behaviour towards our volunteers or participants. Our volunteers are giving their time freely to help create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable event for everyone, and they deserve to be treated with the same respect.
Every week in our run brief we ask everyone to be mindful of where you park to consider residents and other community members. Arriving with a little extra time and patience can make a big difference โ particularly on busy mornings โ and helps everyone start their weekend on the right foot ๐จ
To everyone who does the right thing each and every week: we see you, we appreciate you, and we are so grateful for you. Thank you for helping make Gawler parkrun the community it is.
See you next parkrun-day! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐
