✨ End of Term 2 Check-In

Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year?

If things have felt a little harder lately, you’re not alone.

By this point in the term, many children (and adults!) are feeling more tired, emotional, overwhelmed, and dysregulated. After months of learning, socialising, navigating routines and managing expectations, our brains and bodies are often ready for a break.

Take a moment to check in:
• How is my body feeling?
• What might my brain need right now?
• Have we all been running on empty?

Remember:

🦕Behaviour is communication.
🦕Connection comes before correction.
🦕Co-regulation comes before expectations.
🦕Rest is productive too.

As school holidays begin, there can be pressure to fill every day with activities, outings and adventures.

But what our children often need most is what we need too:

🦕Slower days
🦕Lower expectations
🦕More connection
🦕Time to refill our cups

School holidays don’t need to be perfect.
They don’t need to be busy.
They don’t need to be expensive.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen in blanket forts, hot chocolates, board games, library visits, LEGO creations, movie nights, nature walks and simply being together.

Meet Jade from Connected Travel - Jade Sharp!!

At Necessity Kids, we love collaborating with passionate people who are making a real difference for children and families in our community and beyond.

We were delighted when Jade Sharp from Connected Travel invited our team to collaborate on her beautiful resource, Travel Through My Eyes – an airport and flying preparation workbook designed to support children and families before travel day.

Created with first-time flyers, anxious travellers, neurodivergent children, and families in mind, this interactive workbook helps children understand what to expect through activities, conversations and opportunities to revisit important concepts in a way that feels safe and meaningful.

Our team had the privilege of contributing ideas around:
🌍Feelings and emotional awareness
🌍Body clues and interoception
🌍Flexible thinking and doing hard things
🌍Supporting children through change and unfamiliar experiences

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do, and we are grateful to have worked alongside Jade to help create a practical, neuroaffirming resource that families can use together.
Thank you, Jade, for allowing us to be part of this special project. We can't wait to see Travel Through My Eyes supporting children and families as they embark on new adventures! ✈️

🎉 United Nations International Day of Play is Today!! 🎉
At Necessity Kids, play isn't just something we do for fun, it's how children learn, connect, and develop new skills.
Whether a child is attending Early Intervention, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, or another service within our team, play is at the heart of what we do. Through play-based experiences, we can support children's communication, emotional regulation, social skills, motor development, confidence, independence, and participation in everyday life.
🌟 In Early Intervention sessions, play supports all areas of a child's development. It creates a safe and engaging space where children can explore, learn, and practise new skills across developmental domains in ways that are meaningful, motivating, and connected to their everyday lives.
🗣️ In Speech Pathology, play creates opportunities for communication, language development, turn-taking, social interaction, and connection.
🤸 In Occupational Therapy, play supports sensory processing, emotional regulation, fine and gross motor development, problem-solving, functional capacity, and participation in everyday activities.
The best part? Children are often having so much fun that they don't realise just how much learning is taking place.
Play provides a safe space for children to explore, make mistakes, solve problems, build relationships, and develop confidence. It allows therapists and families to meet children where they are, following their interests and strengths to support meaningful growth and development.
Today, on International Day of Play, we celebrate the power of play and recognise that some of the most important learning happens when children are engaged, connected, and having fun.
Because play is never just play.
It's learning.
It's connection.
It's development.
It's belonging.

At Necessity Kids, we’ve always believed that building a great team culture matters just as much as delivering great care.

We’re passionate about creating an environment where clinicians feel supported, valued, encouraged to grow, and genuinely enjoy coming to work each day.

We’ve put together this short video to give people a real feel for who we are beyond just another job advertisement, because we’re currently looking for another paediatric speech pathologist to join our team.

We’re incredibly proud of the culture our team has built and the care they provide to children and families throughout our community every day.

If you know a speech pathologist who may be looking for a genuinely supportive and positive workplace, we’d really appreciate you sharing this video or tagging them below.

We’re open to applications from both within Australia and overseas speech pathologists looking to relocate to Australia.

Last week we celebrated Dietitians Week, a week dedicated to recognising the important role dietitians play in supporting health, wellbeing, and quality of life across all ages and stages.

Dietitians help people build positive and sustainable relationships with food, support medical and nutritional needs, and provide evidence-based guidance tailored to each individual and family. Their work goes far beyond “healthy eating”, supporting physical health, emotional wellbeing, mealtime relationships, chronic health conditions, growth, development, and overall quality of life.

We also want to give a special shout out to Marta, our incredible dietitian at Necessity Kids and Necessity Health.
Marta is also the practitioner and owner of Beyond Nutrition Illawarra, where she continues to support individuals and families within the community.

At Necessity Kids, Marta provides Responsive Feeding support through a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed lens, helping reduce pressure at mealtimes while supporting children and empowering caregivers through a family-centred approach.

At Necessity Health, Marta supports clients through a weight-neutral and holistic approach, with a focus on women’s health, chronic pain, and gut health, always taking the time to listen to individual experiences, goals, and needs.

We are also so excited for Marta as she prepares to take some leave from next month to extend her beautiful family. We wish her all the very best during this special season and look forward to welcoming her back in the future.

Thank you Marta for the warmth, knowledge, and care you bring to the families and individuals you support every day.

National Families Week 2026

At Necessity Kids, we know that families are at the heart of every child’s journey.
This week, we celebrate the parents, carers, grandparents, siblings and support people who show up every single day through the big emotions, the busy routines, the appointments, the school mornings, the wins, the worries, and all the moments in between.
Families are the experts on their children.
Our role at Necessity Kids is to walk alongside families with compassion, curiosity, collaboration and connection.
We see:
🦕the advocacy behind the scenes
🦕the exhaustion that often goes unnoticed
🦕the joy in the little wins
🦕the love, patience and resilience families carry every day
At Necessity Kids, we value working in partnership with families to create supportive, safe and meaningful environments for children to grow, regulate, communicate, connect and thrive across home, school and community settings.
Sometimes support looks like celebrating milestones.
Sometimes it looks like sitting together in hard moments and reminding families that you are not alone.
To all the incredible families in our community, thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey. We are so grateful to walk alongside you.
If you require support for your child, we’d love to help. Please visit our website at https://www.necessitykids.com.au to find out more.

Today we celebrate all mums, carers, grandmothers and mother figures. The ones who show up every single day with love, strength, patience and care.
To all the Mums on our team, we hope you take a moment to celebrate you today. The care, compassion and support you give to children and families every day does not go unnoticed.

We also want to acknowledge that Mother’s Day can feel complex for many people. For some, today may hold grief, longing, overwhelm, exhaustion or mixed emotions and we are sending extra love and gentle hugs your way. At Necessity Kids, we are privileged to walk alongside families through the hard days, the tears, the self-doubt, the big emotions… and also the magical wins, growth and moments of joy along the way.
Thank you to our incredible team who continue to support families with empathy, kindness and connection every single day. We truly do good every day
Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Necessity Kids 🌻

Necessity Kids will be closed on Monday 27th April for this ANZAC Day long weekend as we take a moment to reflect, remember, and honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve for our country.
We look forward to seeing our Necessity Kids family on Tuesday.

Lest we forget.

Sometimes the simplest activities make the biggest difference.
Giving kids a quiet moment to draw or colour can help them ease into the day,
support focus, and build fine motor skills in a way that feels natural and enjoyable.
These are the kinds of skills often supported by Occupational Therapists,
helping children develop coordination, control, and confidence in everyday tasks.
At Necessity Kids, we focus on building these skills in ways that feel engaging, supportive, and tailored to each child💙
