This is a great resource!

A sleepover shift isn’t the same as active overnight supports. Do you know the difference?

During a sleepover shift, workers can sleep unless the participant needs support. Active overnight supports are different – workers must remain awake during normal sleeping hours to provide support.

The difference matters, but it’s not the only thing NDIS providers and workers need to know. Sleepover shifts also need to be set up appropriately to support worker safety, manage fatigue and prevent harm to participants.

I'm incredibly honoured to share that Banksia Support Services has been named a finalist in the 2026 IMB Business Illawarra Awards for:

Five years ago, Banksia started as one person with a vision to do things differently. Today, I'm still a sole trader, supported by one incredible employee, but together we've built something that reaches far beyond our local community.

This region gave me the opportunity to build a business around my values. To prove that you don't have to choose between purpose and profitability. That you can share knowledge instead of protecting it. That you can build a business focused on changing lives, not just growing revenue.

To every participant, family, practitioner, supervisee, colleague and local business who has trusted and supported Banksia over the past five years- thank you. You've all played a part in this journey.

Regardless of the outcome, I'm incredibly proud that a business built on courage, compassion and doing things differently is being recognised alongside so many outstanding local businesses.

The best is still to come.

Five years ago, Banksia began with one belief: that people with disability deserve better, and that by strengthening the capability of the people and systems around them, we could create lasting change.

As a sole trader business (with one incredible employee beside me) has grown into something I could never have imagined. We've had the privilege of supporting hundreds of practitioners, organisations, leaders, families and people with disability across Australia and beyond.

These finalist nominations aren't just recognition of a business. They're recognition that purpose, courage and doing things differently can create meaningful impact.

To every participant, family, supervisee, practitioner, business owner, colleague and friend who has trusted me, challenged me and walked this journey alongside me- thank you. You have all shaped Banksia into what it is today.

Whatever happens next, I'm incredibly proud of what we've built together.

Here's to continuing to challenge thinking, build capability and create a world where every person with disability is supported with dignity, respect and opportunity.
