Today is 💛
It’s a reminder that a simple question can open the door to a meaningful conversation, and that we can Ask R U OK? Any Day.
Whether it’s a friend, family member, colleague or someone you know who is going through a difficult time, taking a moment to check in can mean more than you realise.
This can be especially true for someone experiencing grief. While a funeral brings family and friends together to offer support, the days and weeks afterwards can feel very different. The calls may become less frequent, but the need for connection doesn’t necessarily go away.
Not sure how to start the conversation? There are four simple steps:
💬 Ask
Start with a genuine question.
“You’ve been on my mind. How are you going?”
👂 Listen
Give them your full attention and let them talk. You don’t need to have the right words or fix what they’re going through, sometimes being heard is what matters most.
🤝 Encourage action
Ask what might help and encourage them to take a positive next step or connect with someone who can support them.
💛 Check in
Keep the conversation going. A message, phone call or coffee a few days, weeks or even months later can remind someone that you’re still there.
R U OK? isn’t just a question for today. Ask R U OK? Any Day. 💛 🩵
