✨ Proud moment for our team at the Regional NAIDOC Awards ✨

Being named a finalist for Organisation of the Year is a powerful recognition of who we are and the impact we make as a whole organisation. 💛

For over 40 years, we’ve delivered care shaped by community - from GP clinic and allied health, to mental health, AOD, DV and family support, alongside daily groups and programs that keep our mob strong. We’re proud to continue this legacy future generations.

This recognition reflects the strength, scale and dedication of our entire team who show up every day to make a real difference in community. 👏🏾

We’re incredibly proud, and we’ll continue to grow, lead and deliver for our people. 🖤💛❤️

Meet Leanne, our incredible Integrated Team Care (ITC) Program Coordinator 💛

💭 What does working at Illawarra AMS mean to you?
“Working at the AMS means the world to me. Knowing my father felt he had to hide his identity due to racism in the 1960s has shaped my journey deeply. Being part of the AMS feels like I’ve finally found my home.

Connecting with Aunts and Uncles, yarning about our shared history, and learning from Elders has given me a strong sense of belonging. It’s a place where I feel safe, supported, respected, and accepted without judgement.

I’m proud to continue learning about my culture while contributing to a community built on connection, respect, and care.”

🩺 Leanne’s advice to mob about looking after your health:
“Don’t be frightened to see a doctor. At the AMS, you’re never alone, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Regular check-ups can catch things early, leading to better health outcomes. I also encourage mob to enrol in programs like our ITC PROGRAM, to help reduce healthcare and medication costs.

Most importantly, look after your health before problems arise, prevention is always better than cure.”

🌟 Who inspires you?
“My late father inspires me every day. He never had access to an AMS, and I believe that kind of care could have made a difference in his life.

After more than 43 years in nursing, I’m also inspired by the incredible team I work with—we’re more than colleagues, we’re family. Knowing I’ve made even a small difference in someone’s life is what drives me. It’s a privilege to care for people when they’re most vulnerable.”

Thank you, Leanne, for your dedication, compassion, and the care you bring to our community every day 💛

Our HDK facilitator Tyson yarns about why the Census matters for mob 🖤💛❤️

Every story counts. Every household counts. Every one of us matters.

Taking part in the Census helps make sure our communities are seen, heard, and properly supported, from healthcare and housing to education and services for our kids and future generations.

When we stand up and be counted, we help shape better outcomes for our people.

What a privilege it was to acknowledge and celebrate First Nations Round at the Snakepit.

A heartfelt thank you to Aunty Trish and Uncle Peter Button for leading such a meaningful Welcome to Country and ceremony. We also extend our sincere appreciation to all of the dancers whose performances celebrated the rich culture, history and traditions of the oldest continuing culture in the world.

A special thank you to Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service, and to Kane and Tyson, for your ongoing partnership and support of the Illawarra Basketball Association. Your guidance and commitment continue to strengthen our connection with community.

We are incredibly proud to wear our First Nations uniforms and to stand alongside our First Nations community in celebrating culture, respect and unity.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a memorable occasion.
