Last night, Young Street Medical won the 2026 Illawarra and South Coast Business Award for Outstanding Health Improvement Service 🎉

This one belongs to our whole team. Every practitioner, nurse and staff member who shows up each day with genuine care for our patients made this possible.

We are proud to be the first dedicated integrative medicine practice in the Illawarra, built on one belief: integrative medicine is not a fringe idea. It’s just good medicine.

To our patients, thank you for your trust and loyalty.
To everyone who voted for us, we are grateful 🙏

🤒Recurrent ear infections
🤒Eczema that won't settle
🤒Digestive issues
🤒Frequent colds
🤒Sleep problems
🤒Behaviour and attention concerns.

These are the things parents worry about. Often, it feels hard to get answers that make sense.

At Young Street Medical, our integrative approach looks at the full picture. Nutrition, environment, immune function, gut health, and developmental support, alongside conventional paediatric care.

Your child's appointments deserve the same depth of attention as yours do.

This information is general in nature and does not replace individual medical advice. Always consult your healthcare practitioner about your child's specific needs.

This is what a medical centre can feel like when it's designed for you 💚
Most clinics were designed for efficiency - ours was designed for people.

From the natural light in the waiting room to the way consultations are structured, every detail at Young Street Medical was considered with patient experience in mind.

Calm, unhurried, and genuinely welcoming - from the moment you walk in 🙏

This is what whole-person care looks like in practice, not just in philosophy.

Did you know one in five Australians lives with chronic pain?

It affects their daily life, work, sleep, and mental health, often without anyone else realising.

The difference between acute and chronic pain comes down to how the body responds over time. Acute pain tends to heal with rest and resolves on its own. Chronic pain behaves differently. It can stay stable with no improvement from rest, and without changes to daily life, it often worsens rather than eases.

It is more common than you think and is often misunderstood. Many people living with chronic pain feel dismissed or unsupported when they try to talk about it, even by those closest to them.

This week is National Pain Week, a time to raise awareness and start real conversations. If someone in your life is managing chronic pain, take a moment to check in with them.

A bit of understanding goes a long way 💚

Shorter days, less sunlight, and colder temperatures all affect your immune system, energy levels, and mood ❄️

🌥Vitamin D can drop with less sun exposure, which can affect your immunity and mood.

💤Sleep matters more - your body repairs and regulates immunity overnight, and this becomes more important during cold and flu season.

🚶Circulation slows. Regular movement, even a short daily walk, helps keep your body functioning well in colder weather.

At Young Street Medical, our Clinical Herbalist, Paulina Luis Braithwaite, works with patients in exactly these areas.

Her approach combines evidence-based research with traditional herbal medicine, looking at immune support, stress, burnout, and overall vitality.

Herbal medicine is not one-size-fits-all. Paulina tailors her recommendations to each person, based on their health history and what they are experiencing right now.

If you want to understand more about how herbal medicine works alongside conventional care, Paulina is a great person to talk to.

Our nursing team is always learning, so you get the best possible care.

Brita and Jess have both completed the Understanding Menopause Program through Jean Hailes for Women's Health. The course covers the differences between perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause, and strengthens nurses' roles in supporting patients through menopause management 🚺

This program was developed in partnership with the Australian Menopause Society and funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

At Young Street Medical, ongoing education means our team stays current with the latest evidence, so you get informed, confident care at every stage of life.

Tired, foggy, gaining weight, feeling cold all the time 🫩

Thyroid conditions are among the most commonly missed diagnoses in general practice, particularly in women. Symptoms are easy to attribute to stress, aging, or lifestyle, which means people often go undiagnosed for years.

Your thyroid regulates metabolism, energy production, body temperature, mood, heart rate, and more. When it's not functioning optimally, the effects are wide-ranging.

At Young Street Medical, our practitioners look beyond a basic TSH result. A thorough thyroid assessment considers the full hormonal picture, because getting to the bottom of how you feel matters.

This post is general information only. Please speak with a qualified health practitioner before making changes to your healthcare.

Breakouts, dryness, redness, dullness.

Most people reach for a topical fix. But your skin often reflects what is going on internally. Inflammation, hormonal shifts, nutrient deficiencies, gut health and stress can all show up on the outside.

At Young Street Medical, we look at your skin health as part of the whole picture. If your skin has been trying to tell you something, we would like to help you listen.

This post is general information only. Please speak with a qualified health practitioner before making changes to your healthcare.

Did you know that what you eat can make your allergy symptoms worse?

Winter brings its own allergy triggers, and your diet plays a bigger role than most people realise.

🧀Histamine-rich foods add to your body's histamine load. Aged cheese, wine, and cured meats are common culprits.

🍅Some foods trigger your body to release its own histamine. Tomatoes, citrus, strawberries, and shellfish are known triggers, even though they are not high in histamine themselves.

🥗Gut health affects your allergy response. An imbalanced gut is linked to higher inflammation and stronger reactions.

🍷Alcohol, particularly wine and beer, can worsen symptoms for many people.

🍔Processed foods high in sugar and unhealthy fats increase inflammation throughout the body, which can worsen allergic responses.

If your allergy symptoms feel worse than usual this winter, your diet could be part of the picture.
