Congratulations to Dr Ashley Berry 💫

Dr Berry presented two masterclasses in Manila last month, sharing his expertise in integrative medicine with healthcare professionals from across the region. His sessions covered evidence-based approaches to chronic disease, nutrition, and integrative cancer care.

He isn't slowing down yet. On 22 August, Dr Berry heads to the HEAT Anti-Aging Congress in Thailand to present on pre- and post-operative patient management and dietary changes in advanced cancer.

Young Street Medical is proud to have him on our team. His dedication to teaching and learning means you get a doctor who stays at the forefront of his field.

Well done, Dr Berry!

4 in 10 Australians live with inadequate sleep 💤
Here is what the research says.

Sleep Health Foundation research puts the figure at roughly four in ten Australian adults living with inadequate sleep. Not just short sleep. Sleep that leaves you unable to function at a normal level of alertness during the day.

Deloitte Access Economics estimates the flow-on cost to Australia at over fifty billion dollars a year, once you count healthcare use, lost productivity and the toll on quality of life.

The usual advice stops at sleep hygiene: dim the lights, put the phone away, try magnesium. Useful, but often beside the point if the real driver is something like obstructive sleep apnoea, low iron, a thyroid imbalance or chronic stress.

Sleep that has been off for months,
not just a rough week,
is worth a proper look 💯

Book a consultation with our team.

This post is general information only. Please speak with a qualified health practitioner before making changes to your healthcare.

It explains that many Australians experience ongoing poor-quality sleep, outlines the personal and economic impacts, challenges common sleep advice, highlights possible underlying medical causes such as sleep apnoea, low iron and thyroid issues, and encourages people with persistent sleep problems to seek a thorough medical assessment. The final slide includes Young Street Medical's website, phone number and logo.

🤒Recurrent ear infections
🤒Eczema that won't settle
🤒Digestive issues
🤒Frequent colds
🤒Sleep problems
🤒Behaviour and attention concerns.

These are the things parents worry about. Often, it feels hard to get answers that make sense.

At Young Street Medical, our integrative approach looks at the full picture. Nutrition, environment, immune function, gut health, and developmental support, alongside conventional paediatric care.

Your child's appointments deserve the same depth of attention as yours do.

This information is general in nature and does not replace individual medical advice. Always consult your healthcare practitioner about your child's specific needs.

Did you know one in five Australians lives with chronic pain?

It affects their daily life, work, sleep, and mental health, often without anyone else realising.

The difference between acute and chronic pain comes down to how the body responds over time. Acute pain tends to heal with rest and resolves on its own. Chronic pain behaves differently. It can stay stable with no improvement from rest, and without changes to daily life, it often worsens rather than eases.

It is more common than you think and is often misunderstood. Many people living with chronic pain feel dismissed or unsupported when they try to talk about it, even by those closest to them.

This week is National Pain Week, a time to raise awareness and start real conversations. If someone in your life is managing chronic pain, take a moment to check in with them.

A bit of understanding goes a long way 💚

Shorter days, less sunlight, and colder temperatures all affect your immune system, energy levels, and mood ❄️

🌥Vitamin D can drop with less sun exposure, which can affect your immunity and mood.

💤Sleep matters more - your body repairs and regulates immunity overnight, and this becomes more important during cold and flu season.

🚶Circulation slows. Regular movement, even a short daily walk, helps keep your body functioning well in colder weather.

At Young Street Medical, our Clinical Herbalist, Paulina Luis Braithwaite, works with patients in exactly these areas.

Her approach combines evidence-based research with traditional herbal medicine, looking at immune support, stress, burnout, and overall vitality.

Herbal medicine is not one-size-fits-all. Paulina tailors her recommendations to each person, based on their health history and what they are experiencing right now.

If you want to understand more about how herbal medicine works alongside conventional care, Paulina is a great person to talk to.

Our nursing team is always learning, so you get the best possible care.

Brita and Jess have both completed the Understanding Menopause Program through Jean Hailes for Women's Health. The course covers the differences between perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause, and strengthens nurses' roles in supporting patients through menopause management 🚺

This program was developed in partnership with the Australian Menopause Society and funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

At Young Street Medical, ongoing education means our team stays current with the latest evidence, so you get informed, confident care at every stage of life.
