A big thank you to Dale Reid – District Operations Lead, and Jess Forsythe – Acting District Operations Manager, for making the trip to Wongan Hills last night.

Dale cooked a delicious brisket, accompanied by fresh salads beautifully catered by Bryony Milton and scrumptious desserts by Teresa MacPherson.

It was also a proud moment for Wongan Hills Sub Centre, who received a certificate in recognition for a nomination for the St John WA Values Award.

Also joined by our Community Paramedic Matt, & his family.

Denis Lord was awarded this evening with a certificate for St John WA Values Award Nomination.

His nomination read

Denis is the quiet force behind much of what makes the Wongan Hills Sub Centre thrive. His genuine care, steady presence, and dedication are evident in everything he does. Whether mentoring new volunteers or supporting the team through challenging situations, Denis brings warmth, humour, and a strong sense of purpose. Since transitioning from EMT to Volunteer Support Officer, Denis has continued to go above and beyond. He ensures ambulances are clean, stocked, and operational, while also taking care of the smail details that make a difference to team morale. He is the first to step forward when the Community Transport vehicle is needed, often volunteering his time at short notice to help community members attend important medical appointments. No task is too big or too small for Denis. He takes pride in maintaining vehicles and facilities, setting a standard that inspires those around him. As a former EMT, committee member, and now Volunteer Support Officer, Denis consistently demonstrates the values of St John WA through his service, integrity, and commitment to supporting both volunteers and the wider community.

Thankyou Denis for all the work you do behind the Scenes keeping the Ambulances on the road

On Wednesday, 10th June, Australia marks a national day of appreciation, Thank a First Responder Day, to acknowledge the exceptional dedication of emergency services personnel, including police, fire, ambulance, SES, and marine rescue, as well as the families that support them.

We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated volunteers for their selfless service to our community. Your willingness to step forward when others need help most does not go unnoticed.

We would like to express our appreciation to other local and surrounding towns' emergency services for their unity and support when it counts the most, and plays a vital role in keeping our communities safe.

Kura (Mick), Lorrice and Amanda visited the Kindy kids this morning to remind them that in an emergency, the number to call is 000.

The kids had the opportunity to sit on the Stryker stretcher, try out the wheelchair, have the pulse oximeter used on them inside the ambulance, and even dress up in ambulance uniforms and try on a stethoscope.

We also reminded them that we are here to help in the unfortunate event that they or a family member ever need an ambulance.

Thank you as well for the lovely colouring-in pictures you gave us — we really appreciated them!

And a special thanks to Mick for being such a good sport dressing up as Kura this morning for the kids!

National Volunteer Week 2026

This week we recognise and thank all of our selfless volunteers for the time, care and dedication they have given to our community and surrounding districts.

Whether it’s attending training, responding to emergency callouts, assisting with patient transfers or supporting community events, every contribution makes a real difference. Your willingness to step up and help others is deeply valued and never goes unnoticed.

Our service would not exist without the commitment, compassion and teamwork of our volunteers. We also extend our sincere thanks to the families and employers who support our volunteers behind the scenes. Your understanding, flexibility and encouragement make it possible for our volunteers to continue serving the community.

If you have ever thought about becoming a volunteer, now is a great time to get involved. Volunteering is a rewarding way to support your community, learn new skills and make a genuine difference in the lives of others.

Thank you to all our volunteers for all that you do.
