When we purchased TMP Organic Butcher & Supermarket earlier this year, I thought I had a really thorough understanding of organic meat protocols and processes...boy, was it just the surface!
We've learnt so much over the last 6 months and tbh, it's been very eye opening to see how others label and promote their meat.
There's very little restrictions around what can be labelled "organic" so as an example, if you're purchasing "organic" sausages... you might find that it contains organic meat but the casings, fillers, herbs and spices are not organic. In some cases, they contain preservatives or even MSG.
Free-range is another loose term. Most of us imagine animals frollicking in a paddock but the reality is, they can still be in very close quarters and have incredibly limited access to sun and pasture.
If you choose to include animal products in your diet, I believe that you should really try to invest in the best quality that you can afford because it does have a knock on effect to your health, environment and sustainability of the meat industry.
I understand that this is a privilege which is why we offer amazing bulk rates that are open to buying groups and co-ops. We find that this is one of the most affordable ways for families to access really high-quality meat.
