“BUT THEY’RE FINE AT SCHOOL…”

Then they get home — and everything falls apart.

The meltdowns. The anger. The tears. The withdrawal. The exhaustion.

For some neurodivergent children, this can be the result of spending hours masking — working incredibly hard to meet expectations, manage sensory discomfort, navigate social situations and suppress their natural responses.

By the time they reach home — often the place where they feel safest — there may simply be nothing left in the tank.

That’s why we need to look beyond the behaviour.

Instead of only asking “How do we stop this?”, we should also be asking:

“What happened before this?”
“What is this behaviour communicating?”
“What support does this child need?”

Understanding the WHY allows us to build better strategies, environments and skills around the child.

💜 Behaviour is information. Understanding it is where meaningful support begins.

“Should I get my child assessed for autism?” 🧩💜

It’s a question many parents quietly ask themselves.

Maybe you’ve noticed differences in communication.
Strong routines. Sensory sensitivities. Big reactions to change. Difficulty with friendships. Or perhaps your child seems to cope perfectly in one environment but struggles significantly in another.

The important thing to remember is this:

Autism isn’t identified by one behaviour, one questionnaire or one difficult day.

A comprehensive assessment looks at the whole child — their development, communication, behaviour, sensory experiences, everyday functioning, strengths and support needs.

And you don’t need to wait until things become “severe” before asking questions.

Early understanding can mean earlier support, better strategies and a clearer picture of what your child needs to thrive. 💜

At Evolve Neurodiversity Support Centre, we believe assessment isn’t about finding something wrong with a child.

It’s about understanding them better.

LOSING IS HARD. But for some autistic children, it can feel much bigger than simply not winning. 💜

A lost game. A wrong answer. Coming second. Making a mistake. Not being picked.

What adults may see as overreacting, poor sportsmanship, refusing, crying or getting angry may actually be a child struggling with emotional regulation, rigid thinking, anxiety, unexpected outcomes and overwhelming disappointment.

And while our instinct may be to protect them from those difficult feelings, letting them always win isn’t the answer.

Our goal should not be to remove failure from their lives.

Our goal is to help them develop the skills to say:

💜 I can be disappointed.
💙 I can regulate.
💚 I can learn from this.
💛 And I can try again.

Resilience isn’t built by avoiding every difficult experience. It develops through small, supported opportunities to experience setbacks, regulate emotions, recover and keep going.

When we understand the WHY behind behaviour, we can stop focusing only on what we see and start teaching the skills the child actually needs.

At Evolve Neurodiversity Support Centre, we support children and families to understand behaviour, develop emotional regulation, build resilience and create meaningful, lasting change.

Understand. Support. Empower. Evolve. 💜

🧩 ASD, ADHD & Special Skills: Similar Traits. Different Presentation.

Understanding neurodiversity goes beyond labels. Many characteristics overlap between Autism, ADHD and individuals with exceptional abilities or special skills, but why they occur, how they present and what support is needed can be very different.

This carousel was created to help parents, educators, clinicians and the community better understand these similarities and differences in a simple, evidence-informed way.

✨ When we understand people better, we support them better.

Take a few minutes to swipe through, save this post for future reference, and share it with someone who may benefit from it.

If you or someone you know would benefit from assessment, therapy, practical strategies or personalised support, the team at Evolve Neurodiversity Support Centre is here to help.

💜 We provide evidence-based support for children, adolescents and adults with Autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental differences, helping every individual reach their full potential.

Not every behaviour is what it seems.

Many autistic children are labelled as defiant, rude, difficult, attention-seeking, or disruptive when, in reality, they may be trying to communicate stress, anxiety, confusion, sensory overload, or a need for support.

When we look beyond the behaviour and seek to understand the reason behind it, we create opportunities for connection, learning, and growth.

This carousel explores some of the most commonly misunderstood behaviours in autism and offers a different perspective - one based on understanding rather than judgement.

💙 Every behaviour tells a story.
💙 Curiosity builds connection.
💙 Understanding changes lives.

Sometimes therapy doesn’t look like therapy - and that’s the point.
Through play, we create natural opportunities to teach:
• Emotional regulation
• Social skills
• Conflict resolution
• Communication
• Flexibility
• Confidence and independence
What may look like “just playing” is often a carefully planned, evidence-based intervention backed by ABA and behavioural science.
Every game can become an opportunity for growth. ❤️💙💛💚
