Diabetes is one of Australia's fastest-growing chronic health conditions. Around 1.5 million Australians are registered with diabetes, and research suggests that the true number may be closer to 2 million people, with many living with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes. More than 300 Australians are diagnosed with diabetes every day, making it a significant public health challenge.

The Real Difficulty with Diabetes ๐Ÿ’™

The greatest challenge of diabetes is that it is relentless. Unlike many other health conditions, diabetes requires daily attention, often with no days off.

Diabetes also affects more than blood sugar. Over time, poorly managed diabetes can lead to serious complications including heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, vision loss, nerve damage, and amputations. Beyond the physical impacts, many people experience diabetes distressโ€”the emotional and mental burden of making countless decisions every day to manage their condition.

Despite these challenges, with access to education, healthcare, technology, and support, people living with diabetes can lead healthy, active, and fulfilling lives.
