Are you curious to the size comparison of a goose, duck, and chicken egg?
Here is a short video of our geese, ducks, and chickens from our farm. What an amazing difference!

1. Goose eggs are massive, nutrient-dense powerhouses, equivalent to roughly three large chicken eggs in size, and packed with higher concentrations of healthy fats, protein, and essential micronutrients. Because of their impressive size and larger yolk-to-white ratio, a single goose egg delivers an amplified nutritional profile compared to other common poultry options.

2. Duck eggs are larger and more nutrient-dense than chicken eggs, offering higher amounts of protein, healthy fats, iron, Vitamin B12, and selenium. Their deep yellow yolks are also rich in antioxidant carotenoids like lutein and zeaxanthin that support eye health.

3. Chicken eggs are an incredibly versatile, affordable, and complete source of nutrition, widely recognized for containing all nine essential amino acids required by the human body. They offer a highly balanced nutritional profile, featuring a lean profile of protein, healthy fats, and vital micronutrients packed into a standard-sized portion.

If you're wanting to try eating duck eggs we sell them by the half dozen or dozen @$6 per half dozen or $12 per dozen.

We also sell rainbow chicken eggs @$6 per dozen.

Message if you are interested in purchasing our eggs and we can arrange a pick up point at the end of our gate.

In response to the news this morning that the Bird Flu has hit Melbourne and in particular Clyde there is a real concern that the spread may come to Woori Yallock Therapy Farm.
To protect my birds I will be closing all access to the public for the next 14 days to avoid cross contamination from foot traffic entering our farm.
All biosecurity actions will be put in place to protect our precious birds from wild birds entering our pens plus the birds will be locked up with one person attending to their needs to eliminate as much as possible cross contamination inside their pens.
We love the company of wild birds visiting our farm from the local parrots to the wild ducks swimming in our dam and wandering our paddocks but right now it is a difficult situation to avoid as much as possible the spread of this deadly virus to our loved and precious birds.
What are others doing to protect their birds? We would love to know.

UPDATE: Did the twins hatch?.........sadly no. After waiting 2 days over the hatch date of 28 days I decided to open the incubator and move the 5 hatched ducklings into the brooder box. Then investigate the progress of the remaining eggs to see why they didn't hatch.
There is always a percentage of eggs that don't make it to hatching date. Some reasons are evident once they are opened up after the hatching date. I have come to terms that it is nature taking care of the weak ones before they hatch and possibly passaway soon after.

5 eggs didn't make it to the hatching date. R.I.P. little ones.

UPDATE ON THE TWINS DEVELOPMENT:

15 days to go before hatching. I candled the egg that has twin Pekin Ducklings developing and I am pleased to witness the two are still alive and growing. One seems larger than the the other but nonetheless both are still alive.

I am excited to see the next progress of these little miracles.

The odds of twins hatching from a Pekin duck egg are extremely rare, estimated at less than 1 in 1,000. While double-yolk eggs occasionally happenβ€”especially in young ducksβ€”successful twin development is highly unviable, and successful hatches are almost unheard of in natural environments.

Why Twin Hatching is So RareLimited Space:
Even though Pekin duck eggs are large, there simply is not enough physical room for two fully developed ducklings to maneuver and break through the shell.

Nutrient & Oxygen Competition:
Twins share the same albumen, leading to restricted nutrients and an increased risk of one embryo suffocating the other during growth.

The "Pipping" Problem:
To hatch, a duckling must turn into position and break into the air cell. Two embryos usually struggle to align properly, often leading to both or one failing to survive.
