Jen | Spinal Flow Practitioner
Holding Space for Spines & Self

Listening deeply, tuning in to the wisdom of the spine, the rhythms of the nervous system, and the subtle current beneath the surface. I'm Jen, a Spinal Flow Practitioner with a deep respect for the body's wisdom and its ability to heal when it feels safe and supported. With a foundation in nursing, my background includes Aboriginal

Health, social and emotional wellbeing and complementary therapies focusing on nervous system based care. Spinal Flow is the heart of my practice because it honors the whole person, supporting the nervous system to release stored stress and reconnect with ease and regulation. Many of the people I work with are sensitive, overwhelmed, or carrying the effects of long term stress or early life experiences, and are seeking a calm, gentle, respectful approach to healing. Spinal Flow H2O is a space of safety, curiosity, and compassion.

Your phone might be smart, but your neck shouldn’t have to work this hard.

Hours spent looking down can leave your head, neck and shoulders carrying more tension than they were designed for.

Look up, and check in with your body.

Your body is always talking. Are you listening?

A blockage in the Pause Gateway often shows up as headaches, sleep problems, jaw issues, and you may have really busy thoughts about the future.

There’s a lot happening in this moment that you can’t really see.
I’m watching, feeling and listening to the subtle things the body is communicating.

Spinal Flow has taught me to slow down and become really present with the person in front of me. To not rush to fix, change or have all the answers.

Just listen.

Sometimes, being genuinely listened to is where something begins to shift.

And honestly, I think we could all use a little more of that.

If you’re curious about Spinal Flow and what it might offer you, send me a message. I’d be happy to have a chat and see if it feels like the right fit for you.

Spinal Flow H2O: Six Sessions In, and Something Has Shifted

I went into Spinal Flow curious.

Six sessions later, I still can’t tell you that I completely understand it, but I can tell you that something has happened. And it has been far too noticeable for me to dismiss.

My practitioner is Jennifer from Spinal Flow H2O in Yamba. Jennifer brings more than 30 years of health experience to her work, spanning nursing and health education through to breathwork, energy healing and nervous system wellness.

Spinal Flow is described as a gentle, light touch technique. You remain fully clothed while the practitioner makes light contact at particular points around the spine and cranium. The philosophy behind it is that accumulated physical, chemical and emotional stress can affect the nervous system, and that this gentle contact may help the body release tension and settle.

I’ll admit there was a moment during my first session when Jennifer told me I could wear a puffer jacket if I wanted to.

A puffer jacket?

I remember thinking: How on earth are you supposed to feel anything happening around my spine through a puffer jacket?

Jennifer explained the extraordinary sensitivity she has developed in her hands. As part of her training, she practised detecting a single strand of hair placed beneath a page of a book. She says she can now feel it through 16 pages.

It sounds wild.

Then something happened during that very first appointment that I wasn’t expecting at all.

My Happy Place

Within seconds of lying on Jennifer’s table, I fell into an extraordinarily deep sleep.

Not after 20 minutes. Almost immediately.

And it has happened repeatedly.

Sometimes, as I’m drifting in and out, I’ve had vivid images of people from different parts of my life. I’ve even seen my grandmother, who has passed away.

I’m not going to tell you what that means, because I don’t know. I’m not interested in turning a personal experience into a supernatural claim. I simply know that these images have arisen during an extraordinarily deep state of relaxation and have felt meaningful to me.

Despite sleeping during the session, I often feel very tired afterwards, as though my body wants even more rest.

And then, of course, Jennifer has the unenviable task of getting me off the table.

We laugh about it because I genuinely don’t want to leave. I’ve started calling her treatment table my happy place.

It’s become such a strong association that if I’m struggling to relax at bedtime, I imagine myself lying there again.

Apparently, Jennifer’s treatment table now lives rent free in my nervous system.

The Physical Changes

I’ve noticed physical changes too.

My hips, which appeared slightly uneven when Jennifer assessed me, seemed to settle while I was on the table. I’ve also experienced significant releases of tension around the base of my skull and through other areas of my body.

I’m currently dealing separately with a medically diagnosed frozen shoulder, and I want to make an important distinction here. I’m receiving conventional medical treatment for it, and I’m not suggesting Spinal Flow has treated or cured my frozen shoulder.

But elsewhere in my body, the release of tension I’ve personally experienced has been significant.

The Change I Never Expected

The biggest surprise hasn’t actually been physical.

It’s been communication.

When I say I’ve found my ability to “speak my truth”, I don’t mean I’ve suddenly stopped lying. I wasn’t lying in the first place!

I mean I’ve found myself communicating what I genuinely need and feel in a way that seems to be heard differently.

I was already in a good relationship, yet during the period of these six sessions, the communication within that relationship has undergone what I can only describe as a 100 per cent transformation.

What’s fascinating is that I haven’t consciously been following some new communication strategy.

Something about the way I communicate seems to have shifted, and the responses I’m receiving have shifted with it.

I’ve noticed it in my relationship, at work, and with friends and family.

It has happened often enough, and noticeably enough, that I’ve gone beyond wondering, Am I imagining this?

I’m not.

Something is different.

I can’t scientifically attribute that difference to Spinal Flow. I can only tell you that this is what I’ve experienced during the same period I’ve been having these sessions.

And for me, the change has been phenomenal.

Then There’s Jennifer

There’s another ingredient here that can’t be captured on a treatment brochure: Jennifer herself.

Before our first appointment, I was sitting in my car when I saw her. I’d never met this woman, yet I had the strangest immediate feeling that I wanted to give her an enormous hug.

Now, I’m not a hugger.

I told her exactly that.

She gave me one.

From that first encounter, I felt an unusual sense of peace and safety around her.

She’s warm, engaging and incredibly thorough in her explanations, even if I confess I still don’t completely understand all of it.

She’s also very funny.

There is nothing solemn or overly earnest about our sessions. We have good giggles. She explains, I question, we laugh, and then apparently I promptly fall unconscious.

It’s a rather good arrangement.

Six Sessions Later

Jennifer’s material describes Spinal Flow as working with the nervous system through gentle contact and lists possible experiences including reduced tension, easier movement, improved sleep, calmness and emotional balance.

Those are claims associated with the technique and shouldn’t be confused with guarantees or established outcomes for every person.

What I can speak about is my experience.

After six sessions, I’ve experienced profound relaxation, vivid imagery and physical releases of tension. More unexpectedly, I’ve noticed a remarkable change in the way I communicate and relate to the people around me.

I’m planning to continue with weekly sessions from mid September.

Would I recommend trying Spinal Flow?

After six sessions, yes, I would.

Do I completely understand what’s happening on that table?

No.

But I’ve stopped asking myself whether I’m noticing a difference.

The difference has become rather difficult not to notice.

I’ll see you there, although you may have to wake me up first.

Stress. Feeling tired or overwhelmed. Anxiety. Pain. Feeling disconnected, ungrounded or not quite like yourself.

I’m a big believer in not pushing through or trying harder to feel better, because for me, having symptoms like these is my body asking for a little more space, safety and support.

This little quiz offers some gentle prompts to pause and notice what’s happening within you.

If you find yourself answering “yes” to one or more, it doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. Think of it as an invitation to listen a little more closely to what your body is trying to tell you.

I love helping others through Spinal Flow and creating a quiet space where the body can soften, breathe and be supported.
