Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre

Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre Through being with horses and nature we provide a safe place for people of all ages to explore mental health therapeutic support outside of a clinic room.

We provide a client centred approach by bringing a number of therapeutic elements together. Julie founded Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre after training in Psychotherapy and discovering the therapeutic power of working with horses to address her own trauma and grief. Formerly a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute for 22 years, Julie decided to uti

lize her skills in building rapport and creating safe spaces in a new, unique setting. She is a Clinical Soul-Centred Psychotherapist (registered with PACFA & ASCP) and one of the first in Australia to earn the internationally recognized Certification of Equine Interaction Practitioner in Mental Health. Julie is supported by a herd of 10 horses, a team of chickens, a barn cat named Sooty, and Mo, a lap dog. The human team includes Courtney and Laura, who bring extensive experience in Family Services and other complementary training. The team have completed training with:
• Certification Board for Equine Interaction Professionals™

This sums up my experience going through the therapeutic process.

It’s wasn’t pretty.
BUT it was worth it!

There’s often a perception that going to therapy is something fluffy, and for those who need some hand-holding and cheerleading, something “weak” people do.

YES there is some handholding and cheerleading too, most of it is really stretching at the edges of discomfort.

However, there is nothing fluffy or “weak” about being able to sit down and acknowledge your baggage, then start sifting and sorting through things.

Out the other side is a person that knows their authentic self, who has boundaries and is happy in their own skin.

Happiest of fathers days to all the amazing dads out there as well as those that are father figures & incredible role models 😍😍😍

It’s great to see so many dads involved in their kids care.

Recently we have had fathers CHOOSING to have bonding sessions with their kids. This has been so inspiring to us 🥰

Whilst many people may get to see their dads today, let them know you love them and appreciate them 😍

Thank you to my wonderful Dad for being the crazy man he is. You are always there when needed, you have become a horse whisperer 🤣🤣 and the way you looked after mum & made her laugh even during her last days was a credit to the love you have inside. Thank you for being the great Poppy to my little man 😘😘😘

Love you lots dad z& honoured to have you as my dad 😘😘😘😘

How are you celebrating Father’s Day?

There is a real stigma around asking for help with your mental health. It brings up beliefs like “there is something wrong with me” or “I’m not good enough”!

But WHAT IF......YOU could be part of the community that showed it was ok to ask for help when things get too much OR it was ok to see a counsellor or therapist when things weren’t right?

Just like going to a doctor when you aren’t physically well, going to a therapist when you are mentally struggling should be the norm.

Room based therapy is not for everyone but what if the therapy room was the great outdoors with the support of some beautiful horses?

If you would like to chat more about visiting a therapist because things are a bit much Message us or post a picture below - no words needed.

This is an oldie but a goodie….

After a busy week where I have been “mind FULL” over the weekend I will be taking some direction from the horses and practice coming back to being “mindful”.

When with the horses I find standing & placing a hand on their shoulder & stroking them begins to calm my nervous system. Noticing my breathe as I do so.

Noticing the fur with every stroke, the warmth, the power they hold within.

I then turn and often they will CHOOSE to exchange breathe with mine. THIS is the most calming strategy I have. I feel connected with them, their breathe flows deep into my being & I am home 🐴💜

With each breath, the stress fades away🐴💜

When in the presence of these beautiful beings becoming mindful can be effortless.

Take time out today to notice how you can become present and mindful 🐴💖

Spring is coming and with that we will be offering some one off events to support people - watch this space

Everything is energy….

Our internal self-talk is energy, our internal chatter is energy and horses pick up on that energy and react to it.

In a recent session a client had moments of calm and moments of internal heightened energy. I wasn’t aware this was happening for the client until I saw Haily’s behaviour change.

Haily’s behaviour was VERY out of character. The client commented on the horses behaviour which lead me to ask the client “what are you noticing as Haily was behaving in that way”?

This lead us to have an interesting conversation around what happens internally with our dialogue and how this affects us.

How does your internal dialogue impact you?

We have been quiet on our socials over the last month or so as life has just gotten busy!

I knew running a business, seeing clients, doing another part-time job whilst juggling a toddler and setting up and managing dads Support At Home through My Aged Care would be crazy but really that’s an understatement 😳😳. Topped with winter illnesses it’s been challenging.

Nevertheless the whole team have continued some amazing work. Each week it feels I am reminded that the work we do is is life changing. Not just for the individual who comes to sessions but often for their families.

I’m looking forward to sharing more in the weeks and months that follow. Whilst also revealing some things that have been happening in the back ground.

Meanwhile my little man is keeping busy and learning how we care for the animals 😍
