Self-advocacy is such an important goal 🌱

Helping little ones find their voice, communicate their needs, make choices and feel confident speaking up for themselves is such a meaningful part of therapy

One of the things I love most about being mobile is bringing therapy into a child’s everyday world.

Because the best learning happens in the places they feel most comfortable - through everyday routines, play and real-life moments.

Toddler talking tip: use comments instead of questions.

Instead of asking, “What’s that?” try commenting, “Oh, a dog!” 🐶

Comments take the pressure off and give your little one simple language to learn from and use🌱

If it looks like play, we’re doing our job!

At Little Sprouts, therapy is play-based, purposeful and (most importantly!) fun.

Because when little ones are having fun, they’re learning, connecting and building skills without even realising they’re “doing therapy”.

Play isn’t just what we do, it’s how we help little ones grow 🌱

Welcome back to our Late Talking Series 👋🏼

Today's strategy: Join in and play

Playing the way your child plays can be a powerful way to support communication development.

Follow their lead, imitate their actions, use fun sounds and words, and join in with your own toys. When children see that you're interested in what they're doing, they're often more likely to stay engaged for longer.

More engagement means more opportunities for connection, turn-taking, and language learning.

I had such a lovely time at the Speech Play Grow Conference last week! 🌱

I loved learning all things Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) assessment and intervention, and I can’t wait to bring everything I’ve learned back to my wonderful clients and their families

Welcome back to our Late Talking Series 👋🏼

Today’s strategy: Interpret.

When your child uses gestures, sounds, facial expressions, or single words to communicate, try putting their message into words.

For example, if your child points to a snack cupboard, you might say, “You want a snack!” If they reach for a toy, you could say, “You want the car.”

By interpreting what your child is trying to communicate, you provide them with the words that match their message. This helps them connect meaning with language, build their vocabulary, and hear words they may eventually begin to use themselves.

Remember, the goal isn’t to make your child repeat the words. It’s about giving them a language model that matches what they’re already thinking and communicating.
