Clearing the central channel, waking up the heart and spine 🙏🏽
A little snippet from my warm up before this mornings Yoga class.
Over the years as my practice has deepened and as I have moved through different phases of life my Yoga practice has evolved. I now practice and teach a fluid and dynamic practice that links breath and movement with circling, spiralling 🌀 and spinal waves.
One student recently said in surprise that she had felt so warm from the practice even though much of what we had been doing would be considered beginner or gentle Yoga compared to the rigorous Vinyasa that is typical of a heating practice. I shared that the breath and movement create an internal warming and freeing up of prana within the body. Stoking the fire within our bellies to build heat and warmth. Strengthening Shakti.

We near close to Imbolc for those in the Southern Hemisphere.

Imbolc is a celebration of the passage of time, marking the midway point between mid winter and the spring equinox.

It comes from the tradition of the Wheel of the Year from Celtic and other traditions from the Northern Hemispheres pre-industrial societies. When humans lived more connected and attuned to the passage of time as shown by the world around instead of a clock or computer tracking the days, months and years. Before electricity ⚡️ and the deep disconnection from nature that has occurred for many humans on the planet today we used to live guided by natural time. The cycles of the Moon and Sun.

Imbolc acknowledges the movement of the Sun towards longer and warmer days.

Have you noticed the days getting longer and warmer? The fresh shoots sprouting?

This is the energy of Imbolc, the transition from Winter into a new cycle of growth and creativity.

What ideas or passions have been brewing for you?

What do you want to create or focus your energy on in this new solar cycle?

Using the rising energies the natural world around you to help align with your creative endeavours.

Women are cyclical beings.
By resting during menstruation 🩸 we recharge for the month ahead. By pushing through during menstruation we perpetuate a pattern of burnout and depletion.
It’s not laziness it’s necessary.
Do you struggle to rest ?
How can you slow down and “change gears” during your next bleed ? 🩸

We are in the New Moon phase of a new Moon Cycle. For the first day and a half the Moon is not yet visible but is slowly growing into her crescent 🌙

My husband likes to say that it isn’t a New Moon until you see the first slither of light and I feel that too. It’s not until I see the rising crescent that I feel an uplift in my energy and excitement for the cycle ahead.

When do you start to feel the rising energy of the Moon?
🌙
The possibilities for the Moon Month ahead.

I was feeling anxious and I couldn’t “mentally” get myself out of it. Telling myself to relax and that everything was fine. My body was heightened by something and needed a physical response to help soothe it.
Thanks to my Yoga training I know I can drop into this breath practice to help shift myself back into parasympathetic nervous system “rest and relax” mode.

This took me 5 mins. If you’re feeling anxious take 5 mins to do this practice and see if it helps.

Start by noticing your breath. Takings 3-5 breaths. Then deepen your breath. Extending the inhale and exhale and letting your exhale fall out of your mouth.

Then move into Chandra Bhedana Pranayama - lifting your left hand up to your face. Close the right nostril with your ring finger and left nostril with your thumb. Start by closing your right nostril and inhaling through your left nostril, then exhale through your right nostril. Follow this pattern of inhaling through the left and exhaling through your right. Do this 8-10 times.

Then find a normal breath for a few rounds.

Next move into Nadi Shadhona- Alternate Nostril Breath. Begin the same as above - although I like to change hands and use my right hand. Inhale through the left nostril, exhale through the right, inhale through the right and exhale through the left. That’s one round. Do 5-10 rounds.

Then find a normal natural breath and notice how you feel.

Hopefully you’re feeling calmer and less heightened.

Clock at the Wall pose 🕒
Opening and extending through the chest 🙏

A great one for breastfeeding mummas, anyone who sits at a desk or in the car for long periods and for people feeling closed down in the heart area perhaps struggling to breathe deeply. This pose helps to counter balance hunched shoulders from daily activity activity and emotions ✨

Stand with your side to the wall. Place your hand up at 12 o'clock and breathe for 5-10 breaths, then move to 1, 2 and 3 o'clock and do the same. Holding and breathing for as long as you need.
And then do the second side 🙏

We are currently in the descending phase of the Moons cycle. Drawing down and in to the still point that is the Dark Moon, the No Moon.

This is the time of pause.
Rest.
Reflection
And visioning.

When we allow ourselves to surrender into rest we can receive the benefits of insight, clarity, creativity and renewal.

When we do not allow ourselves to rest at these moments of pause we stay on the treadmill of burnout and over doing. Women especially need this rhythmical and periodic rest and introspection at the Dark Moon and Menstrual times. Without it Women burn out and can become unwell.

I invite you to take some time for rest over the next 3-5 days as we move into the Balsamic, Dark and New Moon energies.

You may be pleasantly surprised at the rejuvenation and energy you feel in the weeks to come if you can gift yourself some time to pause and rest.

We are also moving towards the Winter Solstice here in the Southern Hemisphere which Symbolically is the Dark Moon and Menstrual phase of the yearly Solar Cycle. So over the next few weeks as we descend towards the shortest day and longest night make space to rest and tend your innerworld.

I am witnessing and participating in the reemergence of Women's Culture. The Womens Wisdom Way is my contribution to the reemergence of our Women's Culture, Wisdom and Sacred practices.
Menstruation is one element of Women's Culture that is re-emerging into the light. After centuries of distortion, shaming and silencing there is a movement underway of Women remembering and embracing the sacredness of their bleed, the wisdom that cyclical living provides and the spiritual path of the Womb and Menstruation.
Reclaiming Menstruation a practice for Women wellbeing and spirituality is my passion.
❤️
Menstruation is Women's original rhythm and timekeeper. Before clocks, busy schedules and 9-5 work culture that demands sameness from women no matter the time of month there was Menstruation, the Moon and the Seasons. Women's lives were lived in rhythm with their inner menstrual cycle. The wisdom of cyclical living was embodied each month with times for action and creativity balanced with times of rest and reflection. This need for inner balance was reflected in the outer cyclical turning of the Moon and the Seasons.
When Women's Culture was thriving Women would retreat from the world during their bleed, turn within and commune with their inner landscape. Menstruation is the time for deep rest and inner reflection. When women take time during their bleed to honour these needs we are rewarded with insight and rejuvenation.
When we are unable to honour these needs and make space for rest and reflection we perpetuate a cycle of burn out and disconnection that can snowball into chronic fatigue and many health related disorders. Our bodies biologically need this time for rest and rejuvenation each month to function optimally. Without it we are constantly drawing water from a well that eventually comes up dry.
When Women honour their need for rest during Menstruation they set themselves up for health and vitality.
When Women honour their need for solitude and reflection during Menstruation they create the conditions for increased awareness, wisdom and clarity.

Hello!
It's been awhile 🙏
I have been mostly offline these past 2 years as I navigated the initiation of Motherhood ❣️🔥
I am coming into a new phase where my orbit is again growing wider and I feel I have capacity, creativity and excitement to share my gifts with my community again.
Having dived deeply into the portal of pregnancy, birth and mothering I have lots of new wisdom, education and passion to share in this space. I will slowly start sharing my story and wisdom here on my offerings page if you would like to follow along.
Currently I am preparing on starting a new weekly community Yoga class in Kyogle. It will be every Saturday 8am-9am at the Uniting Church Fellowship Hall. Message me for more information 🙏 starts Saturday 30th May.
I am also reopening my healing space at home to welcome Women for Integrative Womb Hara Massage which is a sacred feminine bodywork modality I trained in through The Institute of Feminine Arts in 2023. Get in touch if you are interested and I will share more about this soon ❤️
I am looking forward to sharing Womb Yoga classes again soon and specialist classes, workshops and 1:1 sessions for Pregnant and Postpartum Women 🙏
Lots of love and sparkles from my heart to yours,
Mikala

Descending towards Winter Solstice.
Days are getting shorter and colder.
Winter is calling us to slow down, rest and nourish.
How can you make space to tend your inner self during this phase of our annual seasonal cycle?
Save this Moon Map to follow the Moon as she waxes and wanes in this cycle.
Notice what themes are arising for you now in this New Moon and Waxing Crescent phase. Themes that are arising now can be explored during this moon cycle and you might be surprised with what unfolds ✨
