💫Seasonal Affective Disorder😞 is a recognized type of depression that is triggered by the changing of the seasons, most commonly appearing during the darker, shorter days of fall and winter.
Crazy to think we can get here in Australia 🇦🇺 it’s common with shift workers though…And gamers 🎮
Biological Triggers: Reduced sunlight and shorter days are believed to disrupt the brain's internal clock (circadian rhythm), lowering levels of serotonin (the "mood" chemical) and melatonin (the "sleep" hormone).
Symptoms: Beyond persistent sadness, it involves low energy, social withdrawal, oversleeping, and carbohydrate cravings.
Did you know 🧐You are significantly more prone to this type of winter depression if you are a woman, have a family history of depression, or live far from the equator where winter daylight hours are shorter.
Managing S A D you could try ;
Light Therapy.
Spend Time Outdoors: Maximize exposure to natural light by spending time outdoors during daylight hours. Even on cloudy 🌥️days, natural light can still be beneficial. They say 20 minutes , so rug up 🥶
Regular Exercise: Physical activity has been shown to improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression.💆🏻♀️Aim for regular exercise, such as walking, jogging, yoga🧘♂️, or any activity you enjoy.
Healthy Diet.
And establish a Routine.
Creating and sticking to a consistent daily routine can help regulate your internal body clock and improve symptoms of SAD.
