Some of our students have been learning the steps and techniques involved in washing a vehicle, from preparing the materials to cleaning with care and attention to detail. 🚗🚙

This practical skill not only instills responsibility but also helps them to develop patience, independence, and confidence while learning a task that can be useful in everyday life and future job opportunities.

Through activities such as this, our students continue to build valuable skills one step at a time.

The boys were hard at work maintaining the plantain patch! 🌱🌱🪏🪏

As part of their hands-on agricultural learning, students focused on weeding around the base of the plantain plants before removing excess suckers. These important steps help reduce competition for nutrients, give the main plant room to grow, and support healthier, stronger plantain production.

Through activities like these, our students continue to build practical farming skills, responsibility, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for sustainable food production.

We were delighted to welcome students from the Winona State University Barbados Travel Study Programme for an immersive day of learning and connection with our students.

Under the overarching theme of Farm to Table, our activities focused on cows and explored the many ways they contribute to our everyday lives. 🐄🐄

Together, the students learned about the different parts of a cow, products made from cows, and how these connect to food, farming, and daily living. 🥛🥩🏈🧀

The day culminated in a lively cooking demonstration where the visiting students joined our teachers and students in making Mini Beef Burgers; a fun, hands-on experience that brought the farm-to-table concept to life. 🍔

We were also grateful for the opportunity to have the Winona State University students interact with some of our parents and caregivers, as they shared their perspectives on the centre and the growth and development they have seen in their children and wards since entering the programme.

We truly enjoyed having them with us and look forward to building a continued relationship with the students and the Barbados Travel Study Programme.

Safety first in Lawn and Garden Maintenance.

Some of our students learned about the importance of personal safety and protection when using lawn and gardening equipment.

The class discussed the essential Personal Protective Equipment needed for safe practice, including items designed to help protect them while working outdoors. They also had an opportunity to see each piece of equipment up close, try them on, and interact with the safety items.

Before using any piece of equipment, it is important to understand how to protect yourself and this session certainly helped our students begin to build awareness, confidence, and responsibility as they embark on developing their lawn and garden maintenance skills. 🍃🌱🪴

As we continue exploring the concept of farm to table, our students are learning to identify the various crops grown through our Agricultural Programme. 🌱

They had fun drawing the crops and illustrating their understanding of how food begins in the soil, grows with care, and eventually makes its way to our tables. 🫜🍆🍅🥬

Engaging learning experiences such as these help our students connect with agriculture in a creative and meaningful way.

One of our students has been putting his skills into practice as he illustrates how to prepare rice and peas.

Through hands-on experiences like this, our students continue to build independence, confidence, and valuable life skills one step at a time.

Students from the Vocational Skills class have been hard at work learning how to erect fencing posts.

From measuring and preparing the area to placing and securing each post, they walked through the steps of the process while developing practical skills, engaging in teamwork, and building confidence.

Hands-on learning continues to play an integral role in helping our students build valuable skills for everyday life and future opportunities.
