As a therapist I see people at their worse. After they have sacrificed over and over again until the point where they feel broken. The first thing I do is honour their sacrifice, because it is important to understand that there is power in sacrifice. Self preservation is a natural human instinct and to quell that urge to put self above others is a form of power over self. Sometimes what a client needs is for you to honour their power so that they can reclaim it.
